Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend this school for people who live here. I would tell people what to expect and that they should visit other schools prior to accepting this one.
Program Reputation5It's about average compared to other schools. There will always be schools that are more expensive and will have more to offer.
Program Quality6The school did a good job at preparing me for my experiences in the work force. They allowed me to learn a lot about the field.
Instruction5The CS degree is always changing. The industry can't predict what new technologies will be coming out. They prepare you only for somewhat current and older technology.
How Difficult7The work was more time consuming than anything. A lot of reading and researching was involved.
Hands-On vs. BookishIt was book work and some hands-on work. I found myself reading a little more often than hands-on activities.
Schedule Flexibility4I wish more of the classes were web based. The school is somewhat difficult to schedule with a full-time job.
Academic Facilities5They were making improvements. They still had older equipment and equipment that was not working properly.
Social Life5I wasn't involved in many social activities. The school seemed to be somewhat active in the social scene.
Placement Services6They are integrated into the community and have a lot of local connections. They allowed us to talk and get to know potential employers.
Alumni Network5Moderately under-funded school. Computers were broken most of the time.

Would Recommend?yesThere's a nice climate in Albuquerque; an inexpensive school with friendly locals.
Program Reputation8The computer industry is strong in the local area so support for this industry is good with local higher education. It seems there are always grants from government or local business for students in this field.
Program Quality7UNM is a great deal for the value. Professors are great and the advisement from the academic departments could be better. The bureaucratic aspects of the university are a real barrier.
Instruction8Great professors. Fellow students were great; smart and motivated.
How Difficult5
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a good balance: technology always helps to have hands on experience. The theory relayed via books and lecture was important also.
Schedule Flexibility6Some online courses had decent offerings from semester to semester. Some classes were crowded or hard to register for but professors were good about letting you into a course if you needed it for graduation.
Academic Facilities7Lots of government funding seemed to allow the technology departments consistent upgrades to computer equipment. There are many related fields, like engineering, which create an abundance of technology resources at UNM.
Social Life7Students at UNM are friendly and motivated and come from many ethnic and social backgrounds. You did not have to be a partier to fit in.
Placement Services6Career service for our school is fair. The local demand in the IT field is strong and anyone with OK performance in school with a little experience has no trouble getting work.
Review your current or past school and help others make better career decisions.
