Studying Computer Science (completion in 2014)

1/18/2012

"I think I got a great education and it opened a lot of doors for me after graduation. I seem to be well prepared for the challenges I face."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesGood preparation and very affordable tuition make it an excellent choice. It's a great school if you can go full time.
Program Reputation7The school has an excellent reputation locally and a good one nationally. We are probably ranked about 35th in the nation.
Program Quality9It was a great program, very comprehensive. I was frequently challenged to think outside the box.
Instruction6The quality of instruction was fairly good, curriculum was good. It's starting to get dated and there's not much in the way of real world career preparation.
How Difficult8There is no question that Computer Science is a difficult major and requires some innate ability. Work load was also high due to a lot of project-based courses.
Hands-On vs. BookishSlightly tilted towards theoretical learning . We spent a little more time with the books over practical applications.
Schedule Flexibility3There are very few evening options and no weekend classes. They offer a few basic online offerings but not much afterward.
Academic Facilities9Access to and quality of facilities is excellent. Libraries, labs and classroom spaces are great.
Social LifeI didn't really participate much. Too busy working.
Placement Services7It was great when I was graduating. They are not very helpful to people already in careers looking for more than an entry level job. Fortunately, there is a lot to choose from now.
Alumni Network5Not much of an opportunity to measure, I'm not sure how it stacks up to other schools. There are a lot of other grads in my area and I informally network with them.
Review your current or past school and help others make better career decisions.
