"The academic program was difficult, but rewarding. The campus is beautiful and the weather is great most of the year. The faculty was very knowledgeable in their fields and the labs were extensive."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | It has a very good reputation as an academic university. The MIS program is difficult, but the outcome is very rewarding. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | The University of Arizona is known as a great place to get an education. It is not a party school, but one where students take their education seriously and work hard to get their degrees. |
| Program Quality | 10 | The school was very hands on in their approach to computer information systems. The labs were extensive, and extra instruction was available to assist the students if needed. |
| Instruction | 6 | The instruction was superb; the career preparation was not so much. There was plenty to learn about computer information systems and program languages. But back in the day, the idea of career preparation was not done much at the university level. Things may have changed since I graduated. |
| How Difficult | 8 | The difficulty stemmed from the learning of the different programming languages. They were all very different, yet I needed to learn them in order to get my degree. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | There was a mix between book learning and hands-on learning. In management information systems, it requires a mix between the book and the lab. A student cannot know if they have successfully learned the material if they cannot test their programs on live machines. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | I was always able to find the courses that I wanted/needed to take in a given semester. There were classes available morning through evening. I didn't have any issues with my class schedule. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | The school had excellent computer labs for its day. There were faculty and tutors available for mentoring and assistance as needed. However, I had my own personal tutor in my dad. |
| Social Life | 8 | The university had social events and parties; they just weren't the main focus for being at the university. I didn't participate too much in the social scene, as I was focused on my education. |
| Placement Services | 5 | There was not so much focus on the job placement opportunities when I graduated. However, I did get my consulting position through the university's job placement recruiting center. I am sure this center has expanded over the years, as new companies are looking to hire fresh graduates. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | The alumni network is very active in keeping us apprised of the goings-on at the university. There are social events and job networking going on at the university. However, since I do not live in the state any longer, the events don't hold much interest for me. |
