University Of Illinois • Champaign Urbana, IL
Studying Computer Science (completion in 2010)

10/19/2011

"I am pretty satisfied with my school. It would have been better if they had taught more specific programming classes like iOS or Android."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesU of I is by far the cheapest school of its caliber. No where else can you work with top notch faculty for this price.
Program Reputation10U of Illinois at Urbana Champaign is ranked 2nd in the world for computer science behind CalTech. They are ranked higher than Yale and Harvard.
Program Quality10I learned proper programming techniques and multiple languages. I also was exposed to multiple Fortune 100 companies throughout my time there.
Instruction9The instructors are usually researchers in their field. Some are pioneers in CS who have semi-retired to teach.
How Difficult8Computer Science at U of Illinois is required to take discrete mathematics. Discrete mathematics is extremely difficult to learn but it is very applicable to computer science.
Hands-On vs. BookishI usually did not use a book for the classes. This can be good and bad, because you bought the book but didn't use it.
Schedule Flexibility10There are a huge number of classes that meet the requirements. Scheedule is a very good tool to find possible schedules.
Academic Facilities9Computer science has 3 large buildings on campus. They have the Siebel Center, which was donated by the founder of Oracle.
Social Life7Athletics were quite fun. I was a member of the Orange Crush.
Placement Services5I did not use my school's job placement services. Some were offered, however.
Alumni Network5They send too many emails asking for donations.
