Studying Computer Science (completion in 1999)

"Overall I feel I had a great education that was challenging and rewarding. I wish there had been more opportunity for me to have engaged and further explored both social and peer studies because now I have a sense of disconnect from the school."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | The reason I say yes is that I know the curriculum has changed as technology has progressed. The school now does have a football team which helps to expand the social environment. It makes it hard to say a definite no or yes to this question because of the personal situation I was in while attending. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | In talking with colleagues they know of the school, but very little about the programs. I would not consider it to be a top ranked school in the nation. |
| Program Quality | 7 | I give the program a 7 due to the fact that it was geared more toward software development versus computer networking. This did not provide the full breadth of knowledge that I needed for my career. |
| Instruction | 6 | I gave a 6 rating because although I had some great instructors, a few seemed to be more focused on their personal research than teaching. At times I felt I had to teach myself, but overall the program was thorough and gave me the tools needed to succeed in my career. |
| How Difficult | 5 | I feel it was a good balance of my time and effort. A few courses built upon previous courses that were taken during my Bachelor's program. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Most of my courses focused on theory versus practice. As a result, there was very little opportunity for hands on learning. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 4 | The classes that I needed were only offered once in the day and once in the night. There were no weekend or online classes offered when I attended. I had no flexibility with my classes because I worked during the day, so my only option was the one class that was offered in the evening. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | The computer labs were fairly advanced for the time which made it very helpful for the courses. The classes never had over 30 students, which provided great opportunities to form study groups. |
| Placement Services | I did not explore or take advantage of these services because I already had employment. I do know that these services were there for those who needed the assistance, but neither I nor my friends did not used these services. | |
| Alumni Network | 4 | I feel they provide very little value to me, especially in comparison to my undergraduate school. I do receive a quarterly news magazine, but very little else. |
