Construction and Building Inspectors Job Description

Construction and building inspectors make sure structures comply with building codes, ordinances, zoning regulations and contract specifications. They evaluate a variety of structures including buildings, bridges, dams, sewer and water systems, highways and streets.

Building inspectors evaluate the structural quality and safety of buildings. They visit the construction site throughout the construction process and make a thorough inspection after the project has been completed. Home inspectors evaluate the structural quality and all the systems and features of newly constructed homes, previously owned houses, condominiums, apartments, and manufactured homes.
