Would Recommend?yesBased on the time frame, I would recommend this school to any responsible working adult. They assisted me with all parts of my education, including financing. Overall, Kaplan is an excellent school.
Program Reputation9The online degree is very popular for IT professionals. Many people who come out of my school are in this program.
Program Quality8The schooling was entertaining and involved. I enjoyed attending and am hoping to get my master's as well.
Instruction9The professors were all people with previous experience. Also, the school was online so they fit my busy life.
How Difficult8I had struggled with some of the core classes. I believe that the focus classes were very direct and well put together.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe school was very hands on and assigned tasks that made students go out into the world and learn. The book learning was there strictly as a reference instead of a requirement, which is the way it should be.
Schedule Flexibility10There were flexible scheduled seminars, as well as multiple open time slots. Professors were always willing to work at any time to help and were available through email.
Academic Facilities10Online work was the best way to go. I felt that attention was being paid to me at the pace that I wished to go at.
Social Life8I felt pride in my school and in the skills that it taught me. There was no social interaction, but I still felt that the students all rallied at how well the school taught the courses.
Placement Services5I did not get my position through my school, but I hear it is excellent. Overall, I can't say I have used it.
Alumni Network9I'm involved in two honor societies, and the alumni are excellent. This school definitely has follow through.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo • San Luis Obispo, CA
Studying English (completion in 1997)

"I loved attending Cal Poly. I am proud to be an alum of this fine institution."

Would Recommend?maybeI would certainly recommend this school. However, I believe my major has very little to do with my career, so I don't really know how to answer this question.
Program Reputation8Cal Poly is better known for its agriculture and engineering programs. However, from what I had heard from one of the professors, the English program has one of lowest acceptance rates for academic programs, which I would assume means they are selective when it comes to that major.
Program Quality9I loved attending Cal Poly and thought most of the professors were fantastic. My only complaint is that there was not much assistance post-grad (i.e. job counseling, job fairs, grad school fairs, etc.)
Instruction8As mentioned above, the professors were fantastic. The content of my education was excellent. The career preparation was somewhat lacking.
How Difficult8Being an English major entailed having a lot of writing assignments. They were not necessarily overly difficult, but they were time consuming.
Hands-On vs. BookishCal Poly's motto is "Learn by doing." My major, however, is very book-oriented, but classes outside my major were fairly hand-on.
Schedule Flexibility5I was satisfied with the class schedule flexibility. Had I had more "irons in the fire" at that time in my life, I might have found it lacking, however.
Academic Facilities8The library was fantastic. The professors were as accessible as you needed them to be.
Social Life5I went to college basically to get my degree rather and not for the social experience. I liked attending athletic events there, but I did not participate in much else.
Placement Services3Fortunately I turned my part-time job in college into my present full-time job. However, had I been looking for a job after college, I think the career services was lacking for my particular major.
Alumni Network6I am not a member of the alumni association, so it is difficult to rate this. However, it is offered, so I suppose the support is available.
