Would Recommend?yesYou won't be going into debt by going to this school. As long as you had a B average in high school, college is paid for. One warning: you have to pay for the books yourself. Try Amazon and sign up for Amazon Prime. You get free 2 day shipping and prices were almost cut in half. Also, if you are in a tech class, they give you access to the MSDNAA which gives you free copies of Microsoft products. Make sure you grab those keys! Always do everything as EARLY as possible, and make sure you push, push, push to get a response from people. Call several times.
Program Reputation8Well, I just chose it because they were a tech school, and I wanted to do IT. It's probably not the best, I mean... You need to be able to get your foot in the door and start working, and you learn stuff on the job that is not taught in college.
Program Quality10The core classes are a lot easier. In other colleges you have to write 10 page essays. At DeKalb Tech, essays only have to be somewhere around 700 words.
Instruction10I can do computer repair, network administration, and windows server administration. These teachers try to make the best of whatever they have.
How Difficult8You try doing literature and math.... and then study at least 20+ hours a week in Cisco. Try calculating the subnets. Whew, have fun with binary and not being allowed to use a calculator!
Hands-On vs. BookishThis is kind of iffy. It's a bit of both, but I'm going to go with it being more book oriented. I said before that the computers are pretty old. They try to give you as much hands on work as possible, but in most cases it's by the book.
Schedule Flexibility10Day, night, online, offline, Summer, Weekends... Anytime :)
Academic Facilities5The library was tiny. Computers were ancient. They had nothing from 2011. Tutors and study groups you had to setup with classmates. As far as accessibility of professors is concerned, they took an entire week to respond. Academic Advisors were awesome if you could ever get a hold of them. So if you need something from an advisor, don't wait - you have to push, push, push. Nobody will call you back ever. If you send an email, don't expect a timely return on the email. You have to actually go to the office and talk with them. These people are busy. If it's time for lunch they, will leave you in the middle of the conversation and yell lunch time. Always do everything EARLY and DOUBLE CHECK!
Social Life4No spirit - you go to school to learn. No athletics - it's a tech school, so there are no sports. Parties are not existent, unless you like bars. Organized social events usually involved eating, but they run out of food fast.
Placement Services1Doesn't exist! Due to the economy, nobody was interning.
Alumni Network3They send me advertisements to go to bars and other places randomly. Every so often when I had to go to the other campus there would be advertisements on my window.
