Would Recommend?noI would not recommend this place to anyone. I feel it's more of a scam than a school.
Program Reputation1I would think since the school is now closed, or at least I think it is, the reputation is not good at all. In talking to others in the dental field, no one thinks highly of it.
Program Quality1Not at all happy with it. It didn't come close to what I thought it would be.
Instruction2The teachers seemed very inexperienced. I learned a minimal amount compared to what I could have learned.
How Difficult2It was easy because everything was open book. We were never tested suddenly so there were not many surprises to help us learn or keep us on our toes.
Hands-On vs. BookishA lot was book oriented. We rarely did any real hands on training.
Schedule Flexibility8They were very flexible. People picked this school over others because of that reason.
Academic Facilities8They had nice places to go study and read. However, what is the use with no teachers available?
Social Life2Not much school spirit at all. Everyone was there for themselves.
Placement Services2I would rate the job placement as poor. They just give you an address and tell you good luck.
Alumni NetworkThe school's alumni network was poor. The school's name seemed to be tainted.

"Overall, the facility was great. One of my teachers in particular was not the most helpful, however."

Would Recommend?yesIt is a great school in general. I would check into it now to see exactly which teacher is teaching the dental and anatomy stuff, though. See what actual experience they have in the field.
Program Reputation5As far as the dental school I attended for my certification is concerned,I don't think it is very well known. As far as Tidewater Community College is concerned for my general education,it has a great reputation in the area.
Program Quality5As far as the school I attended for dental assisting,I feel like my teacher was not a very experienced dental assistant. I got a lot of hands on training, but the way my teacher explained things to me was not helpful when I was actually in the dental field. Now that I am an experienced dental assistant, I realize a lot of things that could have been explained better and more accurately in school.
Instruction4Like I said, my teacher did not seem like an experienced assistant.
How Difficult7A lot of dental assisting is hands on, and you get better at it the longer you do it and discover easier ways to do things, and find some "tricks of the trade." The medical terms are a little harder to learn, such as the head and neck anatomy. Also, there is so much general information on the different tools and dental health problems.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a lot of sitting in the classroom and learning terms, especially for anatomy class. But also, there were models we could look at and learn from. In my dental externship I did nothing but hands on work, which is how most externships are.
Schedule Flexibility9My school had several options to choose from, as far as evening classes, which worked best for me. And you could go in any time to get extra help from the teacher.
Academic Facilities9Tidewater Community College had a great library with many computers. I never had to wait for one. And there were always teachers available to help whenever you needed it.
Social Life8I never really participated in any of the events, but there was always announcements about games and pep rallies. Also, there were many clubs to choose from.
Placement Services4They would occasionally let me know when a dental job came up in the area, but for the most part I was on my own. They did practice interviewing with us, which was helpful.
Alumni Network5I don't really keep up with my school. As far as keeping in touch with other classmates or keeping up with what is going on, I really don't participate in any of that.
