"I hated UMKC with a passion. Granted, it got me a degree, and apparently in the world of dental hygiene, UMKC is somewhat respectable. Especially in the Midwest. Outside the Midwest, however, no one has heard of my school."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noIf you want a school that cares more about their ratings, go to UMKC. If you are planning on staying in the Midwest, UMKC actually isn't bad. If you are going elsewhere, no one has heard of the school and the alumni are terrible. Networking is very difficult outside of the Midwest.
Program Reputation5The biology department was relatively good. They had all courses available and the teachers were very accessible.
Program Quality5The patient population could not support the types of procedures we needed to complete. It became a problem trying to finish on time.
Instruction5Our instructors were very strict. Also, the grading system had a lot of bias.
Hands-On vs. BookishUndergrad was very book learning. Hygiene is very hands on.
Schedule Flexibility5Hygiene school had a set schedule, which was 8-5, every day. Biology was more flexible and offered weekend courses.
Academic Facilities5UMKC was a small school and did not have a lot of resources. The dental school (where the hygiene program was) also was under renovation and had a lot of areas closed.
Social Life4We had no football team. Only one dorm. 5 fraternities and 4 sororities. Campus life was terrible.
Placement Services5I got lucky finding a job. I found work before the economy started to tank.
Alumni Network1I hated my school and I hate our alumni more. All they do is ask for money.
