"I had a great time at school with the people I met there. I was given great advice, counseling, and references. I learned about many different aspects of nutrition and I learned how to achieve my goals."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | For the small program feel, it is great. You can gain access to so many different people, resources, etc. if you just ask. Everyone was ready to help! The drawback was the cost of school - it is a private school and the tuition is high. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | Drexel is known more for their engineering/med/business programs and not for nutrition. The program did require us to take classes outside of nutrition and it was interesting to be with more tech savvy/scientific minds! |
| Program Quality | 10 | The program at Drexel was very small, which was great because I was able to develop long-lasting relationships with my professors. I received a lot of one-on-one guidance and ultimately was able to land a job through a referral from a college professor. |
| Instruction | 10 | My program offered the opportunity to work a few semesters while finishing the program to gain some work experience. The professors had a mix of different backgrounds: some research/some community/some clinical which gave a lot of different perspectives in classes. |
| How Difficult | 8 | Some classes were more difficult then others: it could be because of my interest or lack thereof in certain classes. There was more of an emphasis on science/research which made classes challenging. Having great professors made it much easier to seek out help. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Most classes had a lab/real-life component which forced all students to learn more hands on approaches rather then just theories in textbooks. For example, in our counseling class we had to find clients and follow their progress for 3 months--we also had a one-year capstone project requiring microbiology techniques. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 4 | Drexel offers trimester programs, so it was not very flexible. If you were unable to take a class you may have to wait until the next year when the class was offered again. It did not interfere with me but I know of other students who had problems with this. |
| Academic Facilities | 4 | We had access to a lot of computer resources and agreements with the nearby hospitals/Ivy League college to use theirs. The labs were older (engineering had the most advanced labs), but they were sufficient. |
| Social Life | 8 | It is a small college but I had a wonderful time on campus. I commuted from home but enjoyed a lot of different events on campus. |
| Placement Services | 10 | I was able to get a job at one of the best hospitals in the country. It wasn't as a dietitian, but it's nice to have people recognize it on my resume. During school we were provided a lot of information on management companies, including the one that I am working for now. |
| Alumni Network | 7 | I was able to land a job through my professor and I was able to work on textbook editing through a professor. I haven't kept in contact with many of the students in my program, but I do feel comfortable contacting staff. |
