Would Recommend?yesI was well prepared for teaching and it was relatively stress free.
Program Reputation10They are now a liberal arts college and not a teacher's prep college, but they have an excellent reputation. They are listed in the US News and World Reports college issue.
Program Quality10When I went there it was a teacher's college and had an excellent teacher preparation program. Many of the professors were former teachers.
Instruction10I was a well-prepared teacher and felt comfortable going into the classroom from the time I graduated. We had excellent preparatory classes.
How Difficult7The classes were challenging but not daunting. I was able to complete assignments easily.
Hands-On vs. BookishIt was a good opportunity for book learning. The hands on learning took place later in the program. It would have been nice to have had some hands on learning early in the program.
Schedule Flexibility8For the most part I was able to get the classes I needed when I needed them. The summer offerings could have been more robust.
Academic Facilities9We had cutting edge facilities. The library was particularly state of the art.
Social Life6The school was heavy with sororities and fraternities, but there were not a lot of other opportunities. I would have liked to have seen some other organizations.
Placement Services5They did a good job of helping me put together a packet. Their job board was lacking.
Alumni Network6I'm not sure. I don't participate in alumni events.

"I loved it! It wasn't too much money, and they gave me a work-study job while I was there, to help pay for tuition."

Would Recommend?yesIt is a good school without a price tag that will break the bank. It has a good program that ensures the people who graduate from the program really love what they do.
Program Reputation10UMF is known in Maine for its teaching program. It is one of the best in the state.
Program Quality10Our school ensures that students get a quality education. They come out of our school prepared for a career in education.
Instruction9UMF is an amazing school. It has a rigorous teaching program with two years of student teaching. I have learned more than I thought I would while in college, and I do not regret my field of study.
How Difficult10UMF has two years of student teaching. Other schools that I looked at had only one. I chose Farmington because of its rigorous program, because I like challenges. I have to admit, it was a lot of homework, but it was worth it.
Hands-On vs. BookishUMF is very hands on. I had one teacher who refused to use a textbook; everything was either PowerPoints or handouts.
Schedule Flexibility8There were plenty of alternative ways of learning. I ended up staying one summer to take some extra classes.
Academic Facilities10The school is very good at making sure you are on track. Freshmen start off with an advisor who helps them through the year. The media resources are fairly good, and tutors are always available.
Social Life9I had a lot of fun at sporting events. Our mascot, Chompers the Beaver, was a blast. The school always went out to support the team!
Placement Services2The school wasn't huge on job placement. I was able to find a job on my own.
Alumni Network5I honestly did not need any support while in college. I will say that the school does value and honor their alumni.
