"I was very lucky to have attended MSU! I would recommend it to anyone."

Would Recommend?yesYes! They have small class sizes, wonderful information, and a caring staff.
Program Reputation5I really don't know. I live in a different state.
Program Quality9MSU provided a wonderful amount of depth and breadth in the masters program. They may have told me too much which led to my dissatisfaction on the job.
Instruction10Everything they provided directly correlated to what happens in the classroom. I have several units that I developed during the program that I now use in the classroom.
How Difficult5My greatest difficulty was related to my relationship with certain instructors. Once I had a relationship established, I was able to excel.
Hands-On vs. BookishEverything was project based. I made several units I still use today.
Schedule Flexibility10I attended classes at night and in the day. I was able to attend accelerated classes during Christmas break.
Academic Facilities10I learned how to use things, like the Elmo. Many of the items I was trained on were not available to me until years later in the classroom.
Social Life5Grad school is a little different. The class sizes were small so I did get to meet and connect with great people.
Placement Services5I never used placement services. I graduated in the Spring and moved shortly after graduation after receiving a job offer.
Alumni Network5I am far away. I still get communication by email, though.

"I am very satisfied with the time I spent at the University of Montana. My program was great, and the campus is beautiful!"

Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend the U. of Montana's linguistics program to those who are interested in pursuing only a master's degree. For those interested in doing a Ph.D. program, a different school might be a better choice in order to receive funding.
Program Reputation6I think the reputation of the program is growing. The professors are well-known and respected in the linguistics world. However, based on responses I and my colleagues received when applying to Ph.D. programs, I would say that the reputation of the program is not well-known yet.
Program Quality8My professors in the program are extremely talented. I went into the program knowing virtually nothing about linguistics, but left two years later as a confident linguist.
Instruction10Because of the small size of the program, I was able to receive a lot of one-on-one attention. In the classroom, the professors asked thought-provoking questions that made students come to the answer themselves.
How Difficult7Compared to my undergraduate program, my master's program was very challenging. There was an incredible amount of reading required, as well as essays, term papers, research, and class presentations.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe linguistics program had a great mixture of hands-on and book learning. As mentioned, there was a great deal of reading required, and there was also a lot of empirical research. A field methods course was required for the program.
Schedule Flexibility8I was always able to take the classes I needed and wanted to. The only complaint I have is that I was never able to find any evening classes for my program, or even elective classes that I was interested in.
Academic Facilities10The library has a great selection of all types of linguistics books. Whatever can't be found on the shelves is available electronically, or through inter-library loan. There were numerous computer labs on campus. I never once had to wait to use a computer.
Social Life8The University of Montana caters very well to academic and recreational clubs. They allot a certain amount of funding to every organized club, which allows the clubs to have social gatherings.
Placement Services9The University of Montana has a great career services program! I received a lot of help from them in my two years at the U. of M. I received one-on-one help in preparing my resume, CV, various cover letters, and job interviews.
Alumni Network6I don't feel confident rating the alumni network, because, as of yet, I have not taken advantage of it. However, I have received several emails from the alumni relations, giving helpful hints on job leads and interview skills.
