"I lived in Rhode Island beforehand, so the shortcomings of URI were overcome by the fact that I paid in-state tuition. It wasn't perfect, but it got the job done."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | maybe | It depends if they would pay in-state tuition, and if tuition hikes keep happening. I have suggested it before and warned against it to others. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | When I tell people where my degree is from and what I studied, I'm almost always met with no reaction. If they aren't disappointed or impressed, I guess it's reputation is average? |
| Program Quality | 7 | We teach towards standardized tests far too much for my liking. I also have many ESL students who I just can't help much at all. |
| Instruction | 7 | I consistently try my best and try to avoid nonsense such as busy work and overly extensive homework. I am always available for extra help after school. |
| How Difficult | 3 | Teachers were lax on other student's plagiarism. Many of the tests consisted of regurgitated information. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Only a few classes took hands-on learning seriously. I had to buy multiple books for every class essentially. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 3 | I took a few online and summer courses, which helped. The in-classroom work was very rigid schedule wise, but it makes sense. |
| Academic Facilities | 9 | I never needed a computer or book that I couldn't find access to. My academic adviser was a bit of a creep but it never hurt me academically. |
| Social Life | 1 | URI is supposed to be a "dry" campus. The on-campus greek life is a hotbed for drugs and the off campus party life is full of underaged drinking. |
| Placement Services | 9 | Like I said, I found work right away. I had a job the first fall after graduation. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | The network helped me get a job very quickly. The problem is that the education program is very crowded. |
