Studying Sociology (completion in 2010)

"College taught me a lot, academically and about myself. The university made it easy to adjust to college life overall."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesThe college is affordable, but with great quality instruction and a variety of campus life activities.
Program Reputation8The sociology department at the school has decent ratings, because of the professors and topic of interest. It doesn't have an amazing rating, though, just because actual careers in that field are slim with only a bachelor's.
Program Quality10The diversity of sociology courses taught was amazing. Also, the coursework requirements were reasonable.
Instruction10The diversity in teaching styles at CCSU was great. Also, the material in college was all material that I really do need in the 'real world' now for my job.
How Difficult8The work was challenging, but not so much that I could not handle it. What was difficult was balancing my course load with a job.
Hands-On vs. BookishI had many classes with lectures from books/PowerPoint. I also had just as many classes going on field trips and out and about to do studies.
Schedule Flexibility10A variety of classes were throughout the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. I never once had to have a schedule that was unfit for my needs or work schedule.
Academic Facilities10The library was amazing. It had a lot of online research options and an interlibrary loan department with a very pleasant and helpful staff. Computer labs were open 24/7, which was also convenient, and there was free tutoring.
Social Life8There are many clubs that could interest just about anyone. School spirit was lacking a bit, unless people were involved directly in sports.
Placement Services8The services were awesome for those who utilized them. More awareness of them should be made, though, BEFORE students become seniors.
Alumni Network3I do not know much about the alumni network. This could be my own doing or the university's lack of resources about it.
