Would Recommend?maybeThere is a lot that the University of Delaware could do to improve. Still, it is a great place to get the foundation on which you can build a career.
Program Reputation3I do not believe the University of Delaware has any reputation for Criminal Justice. The major is not overly difficult.
Program Quality5The core classes in my criminal justice major seemed mostly textbook focused. However, there are so many gray areas that just learning only from a textbook won’t prepare you well.
Instruction4Criminal Justice tends to focus on the law enforcement side, such as police officers. It did not included a lot of information on the court system and the correctional systems. It was not until I left school that I learned about the importance of these two areas and how social work was part of the Criminal Justice System.
How Difficult4I did not really find the program challenging. The focus was on the core criminal justice subjects and some basic electives in math, history and science.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe main focus for all but one class in four years was textbooks. One class was field study observing/working in an area of criminal justice.
Schedule Flexibility5Classes were offered Monday through Thursday on the campus that I attended. Some of a core Criminal Justice classes were offered in the evenings, but most classes were held between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Academic Facilities9Overall the facilities were excellent - an example would be that there was plenty of library space. The professors were accessible for the students and were able to give some individual attention.
Social Life5I focused on academics during my time at the University of Delaware. However, I did a watch a few football games and people at the school have school spirit.
Placement Services1The university did not offer any assistance with career placement. Once I graduated I had to go out on my own and find a job opening.
Alumni Network3I receive yearly letters from the school requesting donations. I do not receive any other type of information from the school that would help with job placement.

"I enjoyed the ease of it but do not feel prepared for my job. I liked the professors."

Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend it to someone who is a natural with kids. I would not recommend it to anyone who is trying to learn how to counsel.
Program Reputation4In education it is about receiving a degree. Your quality of education is often secondary if you have the right degree.
Program Quality3It was easy, so at the time I enjoyed it. I was not as prepared to deal with difficult situations as I would have liked.
Instruction5The staff was informative. They knew what they were talking about but scaled down their lessons for the lower level members of the program.
How Difficult1I never had to work hard. I even took two classes while teaching full time and was fine.
Hands-On vs. BookishMany classes were online, many were a hybrid, many were regular. The online classes had more bookwork.
Schedule Flexibility10There were many class times offered. I took many classes at night.
Academic Facilities7I was happy overall. We had computers on campus as well as professors who made time for us.
Social LifeI was not interested in that. I did not take part in anything social.
Placement Services4They provided me with a lot of help. They set me up with a person to work with for my practicum which lead into a job.
Alumni NetworkI made no attempt at finding that. I do not know and don't feel comfortable rating it either way.
