"I did love Winthrop. The experience and the program prepared me for my career."

| Would Recommend? | yes | Winthrop is a great school, especially for South Carolina residents. It prepares you for a fantastic career in social work. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | There are only two public schools in SC that have this degree. Winthrop has, by far, the better reputation. |
| Program Quality | 9 | I loved Winthrop. They provided me with the best possible fundamental education for social work careers. |
| Instruction | 10 | I had very competent instructors. They were very knowledgeable about ethics and social work as a whole, and they genuinely cared that we received a quality education in the field. |
| How Difficult | 8 | The workload was challenging. However, I chose to take the maximum number of credit hours allowed and therefore found it more challenging than others. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | The primary focus of the program was preparing you for the real world. We did a lot of book studying but then had a semester long full-time internship and we were required to do 80 hours of community service in a relating agency. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | The program is very small. Most semesters there is only one offering of each course. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | The facilities at the University overall are very nice. However the Social Work Department is located in one of the older buildings and lacks the funding that other departments have. |
| Social Life | 10 | My Winthrop experience was amazing. Then again, I was extremely involved in many different clubs and organizations. |
| Placement Services | 7 | The job market in the area is poor. The emphasis at my school was more based on the assumption that we would go to graduate school for our MSW. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | There could be more alumni support. The university has a quality alumni network but the program and department themselves do not. |

"I would have to say I am very satisfied. The professors were great and the supporting staff were also wonderful. I am not so sure I would have had a more positive experience anywhere else."

| Would Recommend? | yes | Here, you can make a difference in you and your family's life. It's the best decision that I ever made. The work gives me a extreme sense of accomplishment. I wasn't sure I would be able to do it but with the help of the professors, counselors, and students it was a breeze. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | As far as I know Florence Darlington has a wonderful reputation for the current program. Everyone I was in contact with while I attended seemed to do well. |
| Program Quality | 8 | When starting college I picked this major knowing it was a program this school has been offering for several years. It put my mind as ease to know I wasn't venturing into unchartered territory. Their program was fantastic and offered everything that I would need. |
| Instruction | 9 | School was a challenge but professors were very informative and prepared me for everything I would experience in the workforce. I graduated with the tools I needed to excel. |
| How Difficult | 5 | There was a ton of information to retain which took a lot of patience and studying. Certain subjects, like child development and psychology, were the most difficult. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | There was a good mixture at school. Most of my classes were book-oriented but the few clinical classes that I did take we were able to do some hands on activities. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | I was able to take my classes at night which was a must since I have a young child. Also several classes were available to take online. They offer a pretty broad range of schedules and the counselors there will assist with creating a schedule that will fit your lifestyle. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | There are times I wish I had more tutors available to me but unfortunately they were mostly on daytime schedules. Classroom space was sufficient and the library was normally available to the students. |
| Social Life | 6 | Since it was a technical college there wasn't a whole lot for athletics or parties. They would have social events at the school from time to time which was pretty nice. I made a few really good friends that I still stay in touch with. |
| Placement Services | 9 | As graduation approached I met with my counselor a few times. He actually set me up with 3 interviews, one of which ended up in my getting hired. I am still currently employed with these folks. I would have to say my experience with the career services was fantastic. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | The program was free but I had to put up with a lot of calls for donations and news letters. But in the end I'd have to say it was worth it. It gave me access to counselors to help assist with class choices and job placement when I graduated. One perk by joining were the discounts at local restaurants. |
