Would Recommend?yesIf you can afford the Art Institute I say go for it. It's fun educational.
Program Reputation10The Art Institute is known for art and design and its the place to be if you can afford it. Great schools and great education come with a price.
Program Quality10The Art Institute gave me hands-on experience and the proper education in design. As a student I learned more with the hands-on learning than I did reading my textbook.
Instruction10While in school we took trips to different fashion shows all over the US, visiting the most fashionable states first to get inspiration. We got hands-on experience from urban wear to vintage.
How Difficult1It was extremely easy for me because of my love of fashion. If you have a passion for your career then the school work will come to you naturally.
Hands-On vs. BookishI can't even remember using my book too often. Everything was very hands-on so you can learn the proper skills in sewing, sketching, textiles and much more.
Schedule Flexibility10You can do online classes or go to one of their many campuses. They understand if you have other things going on in your life.
Academic Facilities10Facilities were great. The small classrooms allowed for more individual attention.
Social Life10Everyone else has pep rallies and football. We have fashion shows, movie nights and cook offs. It merely depends on what you're looking for in your college experience.
Placement Services10From my experience it was wonderful because I got my internship through the school and shortly after graduation I was working for one of the best companies in the US. It's not so much true job placement but they will help get your foot in the door.
Alumni Network8We met with a few alumni who had time to speak with us throughout the school year, but a lot of the successful alumni were always too busy for us.

"I love SCAD and recommend people who are serious about a career in the fashion or art world should look at this school."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?yesI would recommend the school in a heartbeat.
Program Reputation10SCAD is extremely popular when it comes to any type of fashion design and they utilize their resources in order to give their students better experiences. Celebrities and important people in the fashion industry stay in contact with the school and attend events so I think the school has a pretty elite reputation.
Program Quality10SCAD provided the right topics of educations during major requirements in order for anyone to be successful in the field. I enjoyed classes, history and how much freedom we had with our ideas in class.
Instruction8It's difficult to sometimes get started after school in this field but SCAD professors/staff provided plenty of opportunities and advice during classes and outside of class to help get kids started.
How Difficult9Creating pieces of art that are wearable for people is difficult especially when given a deadline. There is so much to consider with each bit of work. Craftsmanship is extremely important and can make or break a deal.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe perfect balance between research and reading and hands on work.
Schedule Flexibility10Each class is 2.5 hours, which is a nice time limit - not to long, not too short. Classes run from early morning to late evening and during the summer. SCAD is strict on absences though, so if you register for classes you must attend.
Academic Facilities10This school has everything you need to be successful. It's one of the best, if not the best art school in the world.
Social Life10I don't have much time for school spirit and there aren't a lot of athletics that go on at an art school to be interested in. But our museums and art fairs and movie festivals are things to look forward to at a school like this.
Placement Services8I rated it an 8 because about 80% of students at SCAD graduate form there in a field pertaining to their major. That's a hopeful rating.
Alumni NetworkAs I have just recently graduated from my last quarter at SCAD I have not yet been in contact with the Alumni network.

"I believe I received an excellent education. I do believe that the school could work on alumni associations so that there is still a partnership which is beneficial for both parties."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesThe biggest reason I would recommend is because Bauder offers a great curriculum. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It was worth the money.
Program Reputation8I have not heard or seen anyone complain about the curriculum. From my experience it is a great school to learn the basics.
Program Quality7I did have excellent instructors. I did not know how to sew or draft patterns prior to attending. I now am a great sewer and I understand patterns but still need a little work.
Instruction8The instructors had great industry knowledge. I feel that they were not willing to share enough resource and manufacturing information for a person like me with a small business.
How Difficult8I don't think it was extremely difficult for someone with interest in fashion. It was challenging and rewarding.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a good mix of both. I could not sew before attending and now I am very good at it.
Schedule Flexibility10I never encountered issues with my schedule. My advisor was very active in keeping me on track to graduate.
Academic Facilities9We had access to industry sewing machines. We used MAC computers for AutoCAD work. I never had an issue with equipment.
Social Life6There were no athletics. We did have many school sponsored events that were beneficial and annual fashion shows gave us firsthand experience.
Placement Services1There seemed to be a lot of support for the chosen ones. I don't feel that the school helped everyone equally.
Alumni Network1I have not been contacted since graduation. I have no knowledge of any resources that can help me. I've basically had no contact since graduation.

"It got me a job and I had fun."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesGreat place to have fun, and the education yields lot of career opportunities.
Program Reputation6I've heard negative things about it. School buys a lot of advertising for us.
Program Quality8School was connected to industry and held a lot of events. Was not in best location, nothing in the city.
Instruction7Many classes were sponsored by companies. Professors had experience in the field.
How Difficult4People got away with a lot. No one ever seemed to drop out.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe hardly ever had required reading. Nearly every class was a studio.
Schedule Flexibility8There seemed to be classes at any time. Night classes existed too.
Academic Facilities8We always had the best equipment. Buildings were open at all hours.
Social Life7I rarely saw people outside of my program. I was close with those in the studio.
Placement Services3You had to be very self motivated to get anything out of it. It often was not relevant work.
Alumni Network7Some had connections to companies. Others seemed out of touch with the real world.
