Would Recommend?maybeI feel like my school is good for fashion, but I believe there are other schools out there that provide a better education. I would recommend my school as a good one to go to though.
Program Reputation10The University of the Incarnate Word has an extremely good reputation for its fashion school and programs.
Program Quality8The fashion school at the UotIW is excellent. It is probably the best school for fashion in Texas.
Instruction8I was provided with a great education through a well-designed curriculum. My school even had a CAD program and a physical drafting board.
How Difficult8The curriculum at my school was hard but taught us well. The school held us to a high level of expectations.
Hands-On vs. BookishMy school was a good mix of hands on and book learning. There are some concepts I had to learn about in a book. There were other things that I learned hands-on like how to tailor a jacket as well as sewing couture garments.
Schedule Flexibility10My school is extremely flexible and offers many different options. They even have and ADCAP program where one can complete a whole semester's worth of work in just a few weeks.
Academic Facilities8The resources available for fashion students were pretty good. We had a CAD room, a pattern room, and two sewing labs.
Social Life10The social experience was wonderful. Everyone shares a sense of pride in having attended the school.
Placement Services5The job placement isn't really that helpful. I would say it is average.
Alumni Network7The alumni network at the school is alright. It could be better, but the Alumni Development Office knows this and is working hard to make it better.

Miss Wade's Fashion Merchandising College • Dallas, TX

"I worked with a fashion designer in Dallas and then as an interior decorator in NY."

Would Recommend?yesI received a lifetime of field experience in the time I went there. The school had the hands on experience of the fashion world, allowed us to meet fashion designers, provided great teachers. It was a great way to learn fashion, whereas other schools only teach theory.
Program Reputation10The school has expanded into computerization. There are new classes added to the curriculum.
Program Quality10I had on-the-job training for the industry which helped to learn all aspects of fashion. Traveling and meeting designers in the industry was key.
Instruction8All the teachers were from the industry with hands on experience from fashion houses. They gave you a chance to fail in a project and a chance to make it better.
How Difficult7The program was five hours a day, five days a week with fixed deadlines. I learned that working under pressure was something I could do well.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe learned a lot about art and artists. We were given hands-on equipment, including books, tools and fabric.
Schedule Flexibility5The school hours were pretty standard. Summers were off and now there are evening classes.
Academic Facilities7There were no libraries. All work had to be done on your own.
Social Life9We were always invited to the larger schools events like SMU. We were always invited to any fashion shows at the mall from local retailers.
Placement Services10The school always helped after graduation to find a job. And they always supported you if you wanted to do something on your own with the network of people that you know.
Alumni Network10We always had someone who succeeded and were told about it. You could go back and get support from the school after you graduate for your own fashion business.

Central Texas College • Killeen, TX
Studying Textile, Fashion Vocabulary (completion in 2012)

"I will not complain. This school gave me a good jump off and an early start. I'm glad I went."

Would Recommend?maybeIt depends. If you have to live in Killeen then I'd certainly recommend it! If you have easy access to Austin or San Antonio then I say no. Proximity is key.
Program Reputation4There isn't a real call for fashion in Killeen. There isn't much of a reputation, besides that it's either CTC or driving to Austin every day.
Program Quality6CTC is not ideal for this path. They only offered a handful of classes, some of which I had to go to off campus. The only good thing was how awesome my textile professor was.
Instruction8The school is set in a small town so there wasn't a lot to offer. The only bright side was that the professors cared.
How Difficult4The program was neither too easy nor hard. The only reason I think it was so easy is because I loved learning!
Hands-On vs. BookishThe textile course was more hands-on. The vocabulary course was a little more book.
Schedule Flexibility10Schedules are very flexible. School is year round and the short terms and mini-mesters are great.
Academic Facilities9The school offers everything for free, including tutors. The tutors are mainly for main courses though.
Social Life9They have friendly people. Since the school is next to the military base it also has a diverse culture.
Placement ServicesI was never involved and can't form an opinion.
Alumni NetworkEveryone leaves the town after. There is no real alumni network.
