Film and Video Editors Job Description

Film and video editors are important members of a film or video team. Some editors specialize in areas such as commercials, music videos, educational/instructional films, soundtracks, feature-length movies or documentaries.

Usually most scenes are shot numerous times. Editors view each scene; select and combine and sequentially reassemble the best photography, performance, consistency and timing.

Most television and film editors use computers and non-linear digital editing systems. However, some editors still cut film or videotape and reassemble them. Film and video editors also use editing equipment to insert music, dialogue, sound and special effects and they also collaborate with professionals who specialize in these subjects.
