Morehead State University • Morehead, KY

"The school itself wasn't a bad school. There is always something that could be improved, but overall, I was pleased."

Would Recommend?yesThe school is fairly inexpensive. The classroom size is smaller. The learning is hands-on.
Program Reputation8Morehead State University is rated the #1 Southern school according to U.S. News & World Report.
Program Quality10If it wasn't for the patience of my professors and the capability of using Adobe InDesign & Photoshop, I don't believe I would be where I am today. I enjoyed the fact that the class sizes were smaller and more intimate.
Instruction7The professor who lead the Advertising Department was good but lacked some of the much needed criticism that would have prepared us better for the real world. Instead of focusing on the quality of our work, the professor focused on the paperwork.
How Difficult8The programs were difficult to learn. I had to incorporate the use of all Adobe programs and include programs like Dreamweaver. For one homework assignment, 5 hours were needed to complete it because of all the different programs you had to use.
Hands-On vs. BookishBooks couldn't teach advertising alone! Honestly, if I didn't have the programs on campus, I would have been a complete train-wreck on the job market.
Schedule Flexibility10MSU offered classes all day and all year. I enjoyed the option of taking classes in the Summer and knocking them out in 1 month versus a full semester of 4 1/2 months.
Academic Facilities8All of the programs were within reach on campus. I wish that the library would have had all the updated Adobe programs, though.
Social Life6I wasn't one of the biggest social butterflies at MSU. In fact, I found myself more annoyed by the cliques that were developed in the classroom because of jocks & fraternities.
Placement Services7The Career Center at Morehead definitely tried to let us know that they were available to help us. What they lacked was the persistence after we graduated.
Alumni Network5I have not really heard from anyone since I graduated and wished that some of my professors would shoot me an email asking me about my current successes and guiding me to better opportunities. I have learned the hard way that creative people do go hungry.

Murray State University • Murray, KY

"I probably would have gone somewhere else If I had put any effort into the search. I wish I had put more effort into it."

Would Recommend?maybeThe recommendation would depend on what you want to do: if your looking to make a lot of money, no; if you want to work for a printer, yes.
Program Reputation5I honestly don't know much about the school's reputation. I moved far away from Murray and it's a small school.
Program Quality8It was great because it covered more than just the technical aspects and didn't get stuck in the creative/artsy side.
Instruction8My professors were good, with industry experience. I think they were a little outdated now that I've been in the industry for a few years.
How Difficult3The program was surprisingly easy. But then again Murray State isn't that hard.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe work is very hands-on. Lots of presses to work with and things to make.
Schedule Flexibility5Schedules weren't super flexible but I didn't expect it to be.
Academic Facilities5It's hard to rate such things compared to other universities as I haven't attend more than one.
Social Life7Murray is a suitcase school... everyone went home on the weekends. I made the most of it.
Placement Services2They didn't help me get a job and I don't know of anyone they did. I got my own job.
Alumni Network1We have almost no Alumni network. My wife went to the University of Texas, and I take advantage of her alumni network.
