"I learned a great deal from my school. I learned more by doing the work and by taking continual education courses."

Would Recommend?yesThe school was very thorough and the teachers exhibited great patience and shared a great deal of helpful knowledge. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend Art Academy of Hair Fashions.
Program Reputation5I have heard through the grapevine that things are currently run the same as when I attended. Although, things change with the times, the basics are still the same.
Program Quality8I learned a lot from school. The instructors cared a lot and showed what they could to me. However there was much more to learn after working with the public and co-workers, and by going to hair shows.
Instruction10The school's instruction was very good. I felt I got the basics but I think it is necessary to continue learning once you are in the field to experience new trends and fashions.
How Difficult7The work was challenging and sometimes I felt overwhelmed a bit. I believe this is necessary to learning and being able to do well in what you want to achieve.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a significant amount of book work and a hands-on experience. It was a good mix of hands-on and book study.
Schedule Flexibility8The program has several choices in schedules. They were very flexible throughout the program.
Academic Facilities7The resources included books and hands-on work with hair with a plastic model or a person. The school did not have computer access at that time. I hear that computers and videos are used now. I my say it was all hands-on.
Social Life5There were very few events involving class gathering after school. Many had to go to work and had families that needed their attention before and after school. During school there were a few parties, not many.
Placement Services8The school promises they will find you a job after graduation. Salons frequently check out the schools for new employees to apprentice. I feel that this was enough.
Alumni Network8My school and teacher were each great and made an impression on me of how important it is to do the best that you can, in whatever you are trying to accomplish. I sometimes hear from these same people to this day.

"I felt they could have prepared you more before you went on the floor or to the old folks home. They needed more people to watch over the trainees."

Would Recommend?noThe school has been closed for many years. I would recommend another reputable school now after doing some research on schools in the area.
Program ReputationThe owner died and the school was closed. There was too much competition to try to open and start the school back up.
Program Quality10I had three small children at the time, and this gave me the opportunity to be able to get out on my own and take care of my children. This was something that took a short time to complete and it was something I thought I would like to do.
Instruction10I learned a lot from this program. We even got opportunities to let other students work on us. I made a lot of friends.
How Difficult5I learned everything I needed to know, but almost gave up when I was left unattended to do a lady's haircut, which I messed up. I felt like quitting. They fixed her hair and convinced me to stay. Hair cutting was the hardest thing for me to learn, but it was easy after that.
Hands-On vs. BookishFirst you had to read books and them work on dummy heads. After that it was all hands on. I was terrified of cutting hair, but the owner helped me get over that hurdle.
Schedule Flexibility10You were able to take classes during the day or night. I took classes during the day as this was the best time for me.
Academic Facilities5There was a lot of classroom space with more advanced students to help you. The owner was the best teacher to learn from, but it was hard to get her. You had to go elsewhere for the library, media, and computer resources.
Social Life8I enjoyed letting other people work on me. I made a lot of friends, but the only social event was graduation.
Placement Services5If you were any good the owner would help you get a great job. I started working at Fantastic Sam's mainly doing cutting and blow dry. We did perms and hair coloring too. I loved it there but hated the regular salons where women had matted, crusty hair that stayed that way all week long. I also came across many women with lice in their hair.
Alumni Network5They had no alumni network at this school. There was a lot of support from other students and faculty, though.
