Mott Community College • Flint, MI

"I really loved my school. I have attended many other schools in different states and none of them compare to Mott. If I still lived in Michigan, I would probably still be taking some classes there."

Would Recommend?yesI would recommend my school to anyone who wants to further their education. It was one of the most enriching experiences of my life.
Program Reputation5As far as reputation goes, my school has an excellent one! I have never heard a bad word spoken of my school or its programs.
Program Quality10My school is excellent in every aspect. The programs offered are excellent, and after finishing I was well prepared to transfer to the University of Michigan and continue my education.
Instruction10The instructors at my school all had excellent experience in their fields. The small class sizes made it easier to speak to instructors if I had a question.
How Difficult8Work load often depends on how many credits you are taking a semester. My personal workload was fairly heavy, but not ridiculously so. Many semesters I took only 12 credits and that was plenty of work.
Hands-On vs. BookishMy particular program was mostly book vs hands on. The most hands on training we got was with telescopes. On the other hand, some programs, such as culinary arts, were very hands on. Almost all learning was done from experience.
Schedule Flexibility6Overall, my school has good scheduling. They could, however, offer more summer classes and internet classes.
Academic Facilities10My school has an excellent library that is not only open to the students but open to the community as well. In addition to the library, there are also 2 computer labs.
Social Life3As far as I know, the only sport my school has is basketball. About twice a year there were parties or events.
Placement Services10My school has a career placement center that I have never used. Many friends of mine have used the center with excellent results.
Alumni Network5I am aware that my school has an alumni network. I never have used the network so I can't really say if it's good or not. I do know that most people that live in my area have attended my school and most people have a very favorable opinion of it.

"I was somewhat satisfied. I just wish it hadn't cost so much."

Would Recommend?noI think there are other places one can go that aren't as expensive. Also, some nursing homes offer on the job training for the same thing.
Program Reputation5I don't know of anybody who has attended lately. I never see any promotions for it either.
Program Quality8It was an okay program, but I felt it was overpriced. My instructors were rude.
Instruction7Again, my instructors were rude.
How Difficult3I already had experience in the field before becoming certified. Also, it's an easy task to learn.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe program was very hands on. We rarely worked out of the books.
Schedule Flexibility8It was flexible. They offered night and day classes.
Academic Facilities8There were many resources open to students. They offered support in the form of study groups and internet access.
Social Life4I was never on campus enough to get into school spirit. There were always many social events listed on the event board.
Placement Services2While I was told by my counselor that jobs were available, I found this not to be the case after I finished. They were not helpful in job placement.
Alumni Network5I didn't keep in touch with my classmates. The school wasn't helpful in job placement.

"They had the classes I wanted at the times I wanted them. The staff is amazingly helpful and the students are friendly!"

Would Recommend?yesWe have a wonderful reputation in the medical field. The experience has been wonderful, for the most part, and I would highly recommend this school to anyone.
Program Reputation10Medical Assisting is probably the most popular program choice aside from nursing. The reputation is amazing when it comes to students earning a degree in the medical field.
Program Quality7I feel like some of the required classes shouldn't be required. Also, I feel like some of them should be longer or more extensive than others.
Instruction9For the most part, the instruction I was given was great. The only complaint I have is that some classes should have been longer to allow for more information with a longer amount of time to focus on it.
How Difficult5For me, the classes were pretty average. They weren't any harder or easier than I expected them to be. The homework load wasn't as heavy as I initially thought it would be.
Hands-On vs. BookishIn my experience, most of my stuff has been mainly book learning. There wasn't much hands-on work, which I really would have enjoyed.
Schedule Flexibility10I took a majority of my classes online. They offer classes at day and night during all semesters, including summer, and online classes.
Academic Facilities8Their IT department seems to be a bit slow with the computer programs. Other than that, we have amazing group sessions, supportive instructors, and tutors are always available.
Social Life3My high school was actually a better place for a social environment. JCC is more about learning than having a social life.
Placement Services10They start preparing you for job placement a few months before graduation. They also try to hire as many of their students as they can.
Alumni Network10They have an amazing student success program. If you need help with any class, they will provide a tutor, free of charge, to ensure your success.

"The school was nothing special."

Would Recommend?maybeI would not recommend others to pursue a career in home healthcare. I would recommend they pursue a career in Nurse Assisting instead.
Program Reputation8It is highly recommended by employers.
Program Quality2I think that the training for this position should have been done on the job.
Instruction6Not bad.
How Difficult1It was very easy watching videos and taking common sense quizzes.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was no hands-on training.
Schedule Flexibility9They have evening, weekend and accelerated classes.
Academic Facilities5They were nothing special.
Social Life10I was only there six weeks but am very sociable.
Placement Services1They don't offer job placement.

"The prices were not that bad and the location was perfect for me. The classes were not huge. I feel I had great one-on-one time with my teacher."

Would Recommend?yesThey are very good at helping students get where they want to be. They will help place you in a job when you graduate and/or help you transfer to a 4-year university.
Program Reputation10They are ranked one of the top schools for the nursing program. The credits transfer to almost any other university.
Program Quality8The classes were pretty tough, but the teachers were really nice to work with. The hands-on training made it fun, too.
Instruction10The teacher would go above and beyond to make sure you knew all of the curriculum. She would help via email and over the phone, before and after hours.
How Difficult7It is a lot of homework, studying and memorization. But if you pay attention and do what is asked of you, you will be fine.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe had bookwork that we did and turned in in class, as well as homework that was done online. We also had a lot of hands-on training in nursing homes.
Schedule Flexibility10I was able to work two jobs and go to school. I did online classes as well.
Academic Facilities10The school had many areas just to study. They also had 3 computer labs.
Social LifeThere were a lot of activities that I could have gotten involved in. I just opted out because of my work schedule.
Placement Services10They were able to place me in a job as soon as I received my certificate. They have tons of resources to help you.
Alumni Network10They were very good at helping me get my foot in the door in the medical field. They led me to the company I work for now.
