Studying CNA Program At Cole Holland And Nursing At UVU (completion in 2013)

"Overall, I have been really satisfied with my school experience. I have been able to have great hands-on experience that a lot of the other schools in my area don't offer or have; for example, we had open access to a cadaver lab, to go over anatomy and see the inside of the body firsthand. All of my professors have been very helpful and are around whenever I have a question or need help with something."

Would Recommend?yesI would definitely recommend the school to others, and I do all the time. I really love that they offer lab time in addition to lectures, so that not only do you know it in writing, but you also know it firsthand. I also feel like the professors genuinely care about your learning experience and want you to succeed.
Program Reputation9UVU is very competitive, and you have to maintain a certain GPA to even be considered in the program and then carry on throughout the program with a high GPA. It takes a lot of hard work and study hours to succeed.
Program Quality8I really liked Cole Holland (where I got my CNA). I really enjoy UVU. It was very difficult to get into UVU Nursing.
Instruction9I have learned a lot from UVU. I haven't completed much of the nursing yet. Cole Holland taught me quite a bit, too, especially about caring for people that aren't able to do a lot of things themselves.
How Difficult9The CNA program was really easy, but very time-consuming to get the required hours for the state. The nursing program at UVU is very competitive and has a very heavy workload. It is a lot of work and you have to stay on top of everything to pass and stay in the program.
Hands-On vs. BookishMy school is a mix of both, but I think it leans more towards hands on. Most of my classes have a lecture section, and I also have a lab section that is usually longer than the lecture section; in the lab section, all we do is hands on. They also provide times called 'open lab,' where we can go back, practice, and go over things that we may need a little more time on or want to study hands on.
Schedule Flexibility2UVU has set times for their nursing program and expect that you make all the other aspects of your life flexible to work around theirs; if students can't do that, they are told that they need to come back at a time when they can devote that time to them. The other training school, Cole Holland, on the other hand, is very flexible and even offers classes on Sundays for those who have other things going on during the week.
Academic Facilities9I go to a fairly new university that has just added a brand-new library and tutor center, and they are adding new science facilities. They offer all of the resources needed to help me succeed as a student and complete my degree.
Social Life10My school offers so many things to get out and do, and to get to know other students. They have full athletics programs, just about any club you could think of or want to join, dances, and fun game show nights.
Placement Services3Since there are so many graduating and going into the field in the state I live in, and especially the area I live in, they don't even offer job placement, so it is up to the student to find a job.
Alumni Network5I have received some help from alumni I personally know. Other than that, I don't think there is too much of a support network, or I'm just not looking in the right place.

"It was a good program for the price I paid. I got the experience needed to succeed in my career and started a CNA job within two months of graduating the program."

Would Recommend?yesI would mainly recommend it due to the price, and also the hands-on clinical experience.
Program Reputation7Very good program; I just wish it was a little shorter.
Program Quality7I really enjoyed my classmates. However, one specific teacher was sometimes unprofessional.
Instruction9With clinicals and classroom instruction, I feel I was prepared to get a CNA job when I graduated the program.
How Difficult1Science/medical courses have always been easy for me to retain, because I enjoy the subject. It was easy, because I truly wanted to learn the stuff.
Hands-On vs. BookishClassroom was taught with book experience. 8-2pm, and on the weekends, we would have hands-on clinicals, which I felt were more educational than the book, because they were real people and real-life situations.
Schedule Flexibility5Sometimes to get to where you want to go in the CNA/medical field, you have to work your schedule around the courses they provide to you.
Academic Facilities8SLCC has an amazing library and resource availability to the students, if they need help in any subject. In the CNA course, the teachers help you one on one.
Social Life5I met some very nice girls that I became friends with, and later, all of us started our HHA careers.
Placement Services3They offered job postings and flyers, but did not really assist you with getting any additional information.
Alumni Network2I have not really received much from the alumni.
