University Of Wisconsin Parkside • Kenosha, WI
Studying Biology (completion in 2011)

7/25/2011

"I enjoyed my two years there, but they were too short and too focused on finishing. I did like my department."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?noIt did not give me a foot in the door due to a lack of recognition.
Program Reputation7This is one of the least recognized school in the UW system. I think the school is underrated.
Program Quality7UW-Parkside provided me with a good foundation and education, but I wish I went to a more widely accepted school. The biology program should have been a feeder to Abbott.
Instruction8I like my professors, but I faced racism which made my senior year quite hard. I had a great mentor and an eccentric professor
How Difficult8The class difficulty varied by professor. I had both the worst drill instructor-esque professor and a flower child professor. Each had their own demands, though.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe biology department was more hands on than book learning. I do not know about other departments.
Schedule Flexibility7I liked the ability to take evening classes. Evening classes allowed me to work off campus my senior year.
Academic Facilities7The biology program was top notch. I know that the business program is not well recognized.
Social Life7Lots of school spirit, including sororities and fraternities. They also have a very good cross country team.
Placement Services6I did not get into Abbott so I do not know if there is any job placement. I tried using the resources at the school but they did not help.
Alumni Network6I am not a member and I have never been contacted by them. I hope to be more active once I get more established.

Waukesha County Technical College • Waukesha, WI
Studying Nursing (completion in 2010)

11/11/2011

"I was very satisfied choosing WCTC and even more so after I completed my classes. I felt that even though it was a "technical college" it still gave me the overall experience of a regular university."

Would Recommend?yesYes, I would recommend WCTC to anyone wanting to pursue this as their career. Even if they were interested in another career path, I would still recommend this school to them.
Program Reputation8There is usually a waiting list to get into these classes at WCTC. I was pleased with the classes and courses that I took there and would recommend this school to others.
Program Quality8I was impressed with the teachers/staff and the classes for my certificate. The staff seemed interested in helping the class/students learn the most that they could.
Instruction8I was impressed with the teachers/staff and the classes I took. The staff seemed interested in helping the class/students learn the most that they could.
How Difficult7I had to study often for my classes and tests I took but I thought that a lot of the information was common knowledge. I have also had some background in the nursing field, having taken courses in the past.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere were many instances where we did hands on learning (how to use a Hoyer lift for a patient.) Learning these skills were priceless for me. I was ready to go out and work after I had graduated from my classes.
Schedule Flexibility8The classes were offered at many times, so there was flexibility there. I didn't have a problem with fitting the classes into my personal schedule at all.
Academic Facilities9The technical college that I attended had a wonderful computer lab and library that I used frequently. These were things that were priceless to have at any school.
Social Life9I had a great social experience at the school. I made many new friends that I studied with and am still friends with as well.
Placement ServicesI don't have much knowledge on the career placement services that were offered there. I already had a place of employment that I was going to work for after I completed my classes there.
Alumni Network5I wasn't really involved with any alumni network or support when I was taking my classes. The only real networking I did was with other classmates in projects and when studying.

Chippewa Valley Technical College • Eau Claire, WI
Studying Health Studies (completion in 2012)

12/8/2011

"It got me a job. It's going to get me into a better school."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeIt wasn't that great. It was fairly cheap.
Program Reputation6For some reason, people think this school is pretty good. The name recognition helped to get me hired.
Program Quality4It was a community technical college. It's just a diploma factory.
Instruction4Like I said, it wasn't that impressive. It was like a tough high school class.
How Difficult6This was among the harder things there. That's bad, considering how easy my major was.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe mix was pretty good. We read books and worked in teams.
Schedule Flexibility9They actually had a bunch of really great times to take my classes. It was very nice for that flexibility.
Academic Facilities4None of them were doctors. Some of them didn't even have health experience.
Social Life1It was a commuter school. It's hard to have school spirit for that.
Placement Services3They got me two interviews. I got the rest of them all by myself.
Alumni Network1They haven't contacted me once since I graduated.
