Program Reputation6It is ranked in the top tier, but towards the bottom of it. They are working hard to get rated higher.
Program Quality8My school did a good job of preparing me for the actual practice of law. It had very smart professors.
Instruction10There were very smart professors. They really cared about their students.
How Difficult9A law program is a lot of hard work. There are a lot of long hours.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere is a good mix of hands on and book learning. The professors are good about encouraging hands-on applications.
Schedule Flexibility8There is a fair amount of flexibility in classes. There is a great variety of classes to choose from.
Academic Facilities9There is an amazing library. The building is excellent.
Social Life7The football games are a lot of fun. There is not much time to socialize while studying.
Placement Services7The job placement rate is good. The career services department, though, is poor.
Alumni Network5I know very little about the alumni support. I have not heard from an alumni group.

"Vanderbilt Law prepared me very well for life as a lawyer. Not only did I learn a lot substantively about the law, but I formed the beginning of a great professional network I imagine I will use throughout my career."

Would Recommend?yesIt's a great program, and you will learn a lot. You will make valuable connections with professors and classmates that you can use down the road in your legal career.
Program Reputation10Vanderbilt Law is recognized as one of the best law schools in the country, especially in the southern part of the United States. Its faculty are well-known in the areas in which they specialize.
Program Quality10Vanderbilt Law School is a wonderful educational environment. The faculty is top-notch, the students are down to Earth and friendly, and the school does its best to equip every student for a fulfilling professional life after graduation.
Instruction10The professors at Vanderbilt Law are all brilliant and dedicated to ensuring that their students get an excellent legal education. Typically, the professors are very accessible outside of class, and committed to helping any student who asks for assistance any way they can.
How Difficult9The curriculum is certainly challenging, and there aren't very many classes in which one can simply float by. Professors generally expect students to be prepared for every class, and the average intelligence of the students make curved exams quite a challenge.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere is not much emphasis on practical lawyering unless you seek it out. Much of the curriculum is academic and based in books.
Schedule Flexibility5There is no part-time or evening program, although classes run at all times of day - some even start after 5PM. However, it's not a program one could do with a traditional, full-time job.
Academic Facilities10The law school has excellent resources available to its students. The library is large and offers plenty of space to study, as well as lots of electronic resources.
Social Life10Vanderbilt Law is the classic work hard, play hard school. The student body is very social, and the law school does its part to organize weekly social events. It's not difficult to find something fun to do with classmates during any day of the week.
Placement Services9Career services does a good job of trying to keep connected with employers around the country. It can be more difficult to place in a non-traditional market for Vanderbilt Law, like the pacific northwest or California, because the alumni in those parts of the country are sparse.
Alumni Network8Vanderbilt Law alumni are scattered throughout the country, and the school does a good job of being available centrally to connect alumni with one another. Alumni are typically quite helpful to one another once a connection is made.

"I have a great position and do well financially, most of which is as a result of UT Law School. Your beginning job is influenced by the school, afterward it is yourself."

Would Recommend?yesFor all the reasons above, it was a great place to attend. I was not accepted into the University of Texas and was disappointed for a year, but the University of Tennessee worked out fine.
Program Reputation8Slowly improving in the national surveys. What counts is your willingness to work, after you establish yourself.
Program Quality9I had some difficulty in getting a job at first, but I've been successful after establishing myself. I was well prepared by the school, it was just a slow market.
Instruction9I did not take advantage (or do as well) in the first year as I should have, but after "catching on," I was able to benefit from excellent instruction, great research facilities, etc.
How Difficult9It was difficult enough for me. As I said earlier, I was slow to learn the process. Afterward, my grades were better and I was able to deal with the complexity.
Hands-On vs. BookishI participated in the Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition in NY at St. John's.
Schedule Flexibility8I used the regular program and schedule. It flowed smoothly for me.
Academic Facilities8Great professors who were well prepared, and a strong computer support system. UT is not a huge school, so everything is very accessible.
Social Life8I did not have much of a social experience. It was somewhat of a struggle at first.
Placement Services5I got only one interview from them. Again, I moved to Oregon.
Alumni Network9Since I went to Oregon from TN, it is not too strong, but in the Southeast I believe it is much stronger. I was able to contact a few Alumni to get their help.
