"It was good enough. I got a law degree without too much difficulty."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | The employment opportunities are too localized to the state. Other, more regionally based schools would give the student more opportunities. |
| Program Reputation | 3 | WVU is a good law school, but it is not well known outside of the state. For example, NPR does not interview WVU College of Law professors for legal opinions on subjects of national importance. |
| Program Quality | 3 | An education is what you make of it, and in that sense my education was adequate. WVU did not provide sufficient opportunities for clinical experience. |
| Instruction | 5 | Most of my instructors were knowledgeable and interesting. However, very little time was spent on the mechanics of what an attorney does on a day to day basis. |
| How Difficult | 3 | The work was labor intensive, but not difficult. Most professors used the Socratic method, but were not rigorous enough. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Very little hands-on learning. Very limited opportunities for clinic work or moot court. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 2 | My rating is based on my time at the College of Law from 1986-1989. There was very little flexibility. I only knew a few part time students. I do not think that summer classes were available at the time. |
| Academic Facilities | 3 | At the time (1986-1989), the library was fair. We even had a few West-Law terminals, although they were only available to second and third year students. The classrooms only had a chalkboard and a screen for movies/slides. |
| Social Life | 2 | I thought it was miserable. My classmates and I were "stuck" in the College of Law at the top of a small hill, separated from the rest of the campus. |
| Placement Services | 6 | The career center was a good resource prior to graduation and helped me with a post graduation career search as well. It is primarily focused on in-state positions. |
| Alumni Network | 2 | To be fair, I have not looked into it very deeply. My impression is that the majority of alumni networking involves fundraising for the school. |
