"My understanding of the world was undoubtedly enhanced by attending Rollins College. I changed - for the better - as a person."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

| Would Recommend? | yes | The experience at Rollins is incomparable. If you want to expand your 'self,' go there. |
| Program Reputation | 8 | Rollins College is considered to be just outside the Ivy League. Its International Affairs Professors are not easily matched. |
| Program Quality | 10 | My professors were beyond comparison. My instructor in Asian Affairs drafted the security agreement between Southeast Asian nations in 1948. |
| Instruction | 10 | Keeping in mind the prior paragraph written, my experience at Rollins was extraordinary. My mentor was the editorial-page editor for the Orlando Sentinel, and had a successful column in more than 200 newspapers. |
| How Difficult | 8 | Too many students were passed, despite being sub-par. While those that cared extracted great value, the grading curve was too lenient at Rollins. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I had old-school professors bent on demanding multiple sources for everything. Also, I had professors willing to make their points outside of the classroom... | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | I began as a day-student. Switching to evening classes - with the ability to take any classes - was very simple. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | Numerous databases are available. Inter-library loans are quick and efficient. |
| Social Life | 10 | Winter Park is a fantastic community. Food, drink and clubs are numerous and close by. |
| Placement Services | I have no experience with job-placement services. I never used them. | |
| Alumni Network | 7 | I base my understanding of the Rollins' alumni network on attendance at various functions. I am not a member of the network, and thus cannot comment intelligently upon its effectiveness. |

"I was satisfied enough to go back. There were things that I could have done differently to have had a different experience."

| Would Recommend? | yes | I would recommend it because USF continues to grow and become a major college in the state of Florida. They keep getting major government funding for all types of programs there and the atmosphere in Tampa is awesome. |
| Program Reputation | 8 | It has been seven years and I believe it has grown and become much better. There are more opportunities for students there according to what I have read. |
| Program Quality | 8 | It was awesome! The professors were great, and the classes offered for nontraditional students were appropriate. |
| Instruction | 8 | The professors were very professional; they had great office hours. I would have liked to see more personal interest in the students, though. |
| How Difficult | 7 | We were challenged a lot, but it was easy to just ride the program. The hardest class there was the accounting course. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | It was more book learning than hands on. I only remember about one class that I took that was really very hands-on. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | I was mainly an evening student and I never had a problem finding the courses that I needed to take. The hours were good. |
| Academic Facilities | 9 | Everything was excellent. They have an awesome library and awesome buildings; though they are a little old. |
| Social Life | 6 | I wasn't very active because of family commitments. There's not much interaction available for students that go there on the evenings. |
| Placement Services | 6 | Not good at all while I was there. It really did not help me do much. |
| Alumni Network | 7 | It really did not do much for me. I have not seen much support for those that graduate. |

"The University of Florida is one of the best schools in the country, and I am always proud to say that I graduated from there. I felt very prepared entering the workforce, and I have relied on the knowledge I gained for years."

| Would Recommend? | yes | UF is one of the best schools for communications, and I felt very prepared for my job upon graduation. The fact that UF has a reputation for excellence is also a wonderful reason to go there. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | The University of Florida has an excellent reputation as a Journalism and Communications school, and the marketing department is within that college. I have always been very proud that I graduated from UF. |
| Program Quality | 9 | I felt very prepared when I graduated UF. I remember thinking that when I started my first job in a marketing department at a local nonprofit, that I felt like I knew everything. Obviously, as I began working in the real world, I realized that I knew practically nothing and had lots to learn; however, I felt like the school taught me as much as possible without the real-life experiences that are necessary to become a real expert. |
| Instruction | 9 | My instructors were very personable and helped me with my career preparation in many ways. I had a journalism instructor who taught me more about the English language than any of my high school teachers. I had a PR instructor who helped me prepare press kits for job interviews. They were very supportive and helpful in preparing me for my future. |
| How Difficult | 6 | I wouldn't say it was easy, but it was definitely not an incredibly difficult area of study. Of course, I have always been more inclined toward writing and communications, so it would come easier to me than math or sciences, but in general, I felt the work was easier than some, but still challenging. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I remember graphic design classes that were very hands on and creative. I also remember statistics classes that were very book oriented. So it was a nice mix, depending on the class. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | I remember it being relatively flexible. I was able to arrange most of my classes around a convenient schedule and was able to sleep late most days, which was my priority back then. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | I remember always having access to my teachers and TAs during their office hours. They always made themselves available. I also remember tutoring sessions available for an extra fee. |
| Social Life | 8 | The school had lots of social opportunities. I was actually sick during most of my time at UF, so I didn't participate in a lot of social events, parties, etc., but that was my choice. They were definitely prevalent. |
| Placement Services | I didn't really use the career services at UF. My home is in Tampa, and I think I either didn't find they had a lot of contacts down here, or I just assumed that they didn't. It's been 13 years since I graduated, so I can't remember exactly why I didn't utilize that service much, but I know I didn't. | |
| Alumni Network | 8 | While I receive info from the alumni association on a regular basis, I have made no effort to participate in the network. I have a busy life with my job, kids and husband, and don't have time for one more network. I know I probably should make time for that area, but my other professional organizations are all I can handle right now. |
USF • Tampa, FL
Studying Economics/Marketing (completion in 1981)

"It was a great experience for that time in my life and it prepared me very well for my career."

| Would Recommend? | yes | I absolutely would recommend USF to anyone pursuing a business career and I have. USF has developed into a major force in the South and in the country. An excellent experience awaits. |
| Program Reputation | I'm really not sure how the College of Business is now. My last experience with them was in 1993 and at that time, the College of Business was one of the best in the Southeast. | |
| Program Quality | 5 | The program at the time was on par with others. Many advances and aides have been developed since 1981. |
| Instruction | 6 | I feel it was slightly above average, now looking back. At the time it was hard to rate because I had no other schools to compare. |
| How Difficult | 8 | Getting a marketing and economics degree was very difficult. However, I was fortunate that the economics classes seemed to come easy to me, so I could spend more time on the marketing side. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | It was a true mix. Some practical application, field application, books, and hands-on. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | Classes were extremely flexible due to the fact that at the time USF was a huge commuter school, so working professionals could attend night classes and even teach some night classes. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | All of the support resources were excellent. At that time a brand new business building was constructed as was a new Library that was second to none. Classrooms were nice and new - overall a good environment. |
| Social Life | 5 | Sports were developing at that time. Basketball was the center of the Athletic Department as there was no football team at the time. Compared to Florida or Florida State it was awful, but the parties were very common and much fun. |
| Placement Services | 5 | Again, going back to 1981, the school was fairly new (Founded in 1956) and the assistance was adequate for the time, but it was nothing like it is today. |
| Alumni Network | 9 | During my time at USF the school was growing and fairly new, so the Alumni network was in it's infancy. However, since then it has become very strong. |

"I don't feel like it was a waste of time, but I feel like some students who came from a business/marketing background were wasting their time. I had no business education previously, so I feel like I learned a lot."

| Would Recommend? | maybe | Within the geographical area, and perhaps the state, my school is the highest ranked. But, I wouldn't encourage someone who wants to aggressively pursue their career options to go there. The degree doesn't carry much weight in the business community outside of south Florida. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | The curriculum isn't challenging enough. I feel like it was just an average program. |
| Program Quality | 5 | Instruction was very theory heavy. There was no opportunity for creative expression or innovation. |
| Instruction | 7 | There were some very well qualified professors who taught in an engaging manner. There were some professors who shouldn't be allowed to teach and should stick to research. |
| How Difficult | 4 | I didn't feel that the program was challenging with respect to content. The challenging part was the time constraints. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | About 96% of the classes never used any hands-on experience. There weren't many options to incorporate hands-on learning. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 7 | There were several programs for the same approximate degree. Weekends and nights were options. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | It seemed like the facilities weren't made for the specific program. The necessary computer programs weren't easily available. |
| Social Life | 6 | Most events were based around drinking. Not much going on besides partying. |
| Placement Services | 1 | There was high turnover in the career services office and the workers were uninformed, inexperienced, and poorly trained. Many mistakes were made and most students just skipped using these services altogether. |
| Alumni Network | 3 | Most events are poorly attended and aren't substantial. |
