"I received a great education. The instructors did a good job preparing me for the workforce and level of critical thinking that would be required."

Would Recommend?yesI had a great time going there. It prepared me for a good career with good financial opportunities.
Program Reputation8We are ranked nationally but not at the top. We are one of the best state schools in Kansas.
Program Quality9I learned extremely valuable skills at WSU. I graduated with vast knowledge that directly relates to my career.
Instruction9The instructors were well informed. They care about their students.
How Difficult9The program required a long time commitment. It was also mentally challenging.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe did most learning from books and instructor experience. Most professors did not have a job outside academia.
Schedule Flexibility8I was able to choose from morning or evening classes. Most of the work was done on your own time and schedule.
Academic Facilities9We have an extensive library where I was able to get pretty much any article or book I need. The computer lab was okay but it's getting better.
Social Life7I went to a city school where most students live off campus. I think this results in less on-campus activities.
Placement Services8I didn't receive a lot of career placement services. I was able to do some networking through instructors and fellow graduates.
Alumni Network5I receive mailings asking me to join the alumni program. I have not responded because there doesn't seem to be too many benefits.

Would Recommend?yesI have recruited others to attend my alma mater. It is extremely good for those in the journalism field.
Program Reputation10Nationally recognized school for its journalism program.
Program Quality10My schooling was extremely relevant.
Instruction9Instruction was extremely relevant and was given by professionals within the industry.
How Difficult8Schooling wasn't easy... had to study hard and write papers, etc. It was hard to get an A.
Hands-On vs. BookishClasses within my major were more on hands-on learning. Classes outside of my major were more focused on books.
Schedule Flexibility6Class schedule flexibility was better for classes outside of my major. Classes within my major had very little flexibility in the M-F window.
Academic Facilities10We had access to professors whenever we needed it. We had a library devoted for those in our school.
Social Life6The school did not have a lot of activities outside of sports. They focused on the greek groups and basketball or football.
Placement Services5Career placement could be better for those looking to go outside the Kansas or Missouri area.
Alumni Network10Alumni are very active in the area I live.

"I received the degree. I feel that I got out what I put in."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI think it is great for people who don't have tons of time but still would like to further their education. If you apply yourself you can get allot out of it.
Program Reputation5It is not a fully accredited program. It is not highly respected by peers.
Program Quality6It was a short program that was easy to complete while working full-time. I wish some of the courses would have gone more in depth.
Instruction7The teachers were well qualified. They were thorough in their lectures and the learning materials they provided. It was also easy to get ahold of them for questions.
How Difficult3Many of the courses came with a binder that was already put together in order with outlines for the lectures and homework assignments printed out ready to fill out and turn in. It was not difficult to be prepared for class.
Hands-On vs. BookishMost of our courses were lecture/book based. There were courses with group projects but most were based out of textbooks.
Schedule Flexibility10Classes were offered at night on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These courses were offered in 2 month intervals so it was easy to get started at any point, not just the start of a semester.
Academic Facilities3There was a small computer lab. The library was not usually available.
Social Life8I cheered while in graduate school. I attended all football and basketball games and helped to provide school spirit. I felt the school was fairly close knit.
Placement ServicesI didn't use my school's career services. I sought out employment through other channels.
Alumni NetworkI was an undergrad of a rival school. I didn't get involved with my graduate alumni network.
