Would Recommend?maybeMost people pursuing this career need a license in the state of Ohio, since it will be easier to find employment. But it is not impossible to have a career without a license. I did it for a few years before I went on to further my education.
Program Reputation5The reputation was good and the teachers were passionate about their work. I think most people going into this field probably want a massotherapy license as opposed to a certificate, though.
Program Quality9It was a good program and I learned from excellent teachers who were passionate about teaching massage. They included in their instruction how to market yourself after graduation.
InstructionMore than 5 years agoN/A
How Difficult3I was already familiar with basic anatomy which helped with my studying. The program was challenging at times, but not overly difficult.
Hands-On vs. BookishI was impressed that we began hands-on massage on day one and that we were able to massage a variety of body types.
Schedule Flexibility5To be honest, I don't remember the schedule. It was only a few days per week and there was no flexibility.
Academic Facilities5It was a small classroom type of atmosphere. There were reference books that could be borrowed at any time.
Social Life5It was a small private school that taught massage only. Since then the school has moved to a larger college location.
Placement Services8They were very good at teaching you how to market yourself to start your own massage business. They helped you to decide what avenue to pursue.
Alumni Network8The school/director welcomes you to come back at any time for any reason with no fees. I did not go back, but was glad to know that I could.

Would Recommend?yesBased on how helpful and caring they were, I would recommend them to anyone. They also had an extensive learning programs
Program Reputation8A lot of people that are Massage Therapists, or want to be one, recommend going to Sinclaire.
Program Quality9The instructors are amazing. They are very helpful.
Instruction10There isn't one thing my classes didn't cover. They prepared me in every aspect of Massage Therapy.
How Difficult5There were things that were difficult to learn and took extra effort, but other things in the program were very easy.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe instructors always had the students doing hands on training aside from book work. They had dummy dolls, skeletons, etc.
Schedule Flexibility6There were evening and day classes available. The hours of the day and evening classes weren't good times for me, though.
Academic Facilities10Sinclaire had more than enough resources for Massage Therapy. They had top of the line computers, library, and instructors, plus hands on training equipment.
Social Life8Everyone was extremely helpful, and I could always ask if I needed help. The students were also friendly. There were lots of supportive clubs based on your program and/or interests.
Placement Services9They were 100% helpful. They provided me with leads, helped with my resume, and got me the job I wanted.
Alumni Network6It's decent enough. It is very supportive, and is always there for me if I need any support.

Cleveland Institute Of Medical Massage • Cleveland, OH
Studying Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy (completion in 2006)

1/22/2012

"Overall, with the hands-on experiences, the friendliness, the people, the learning, the material, everything really just made it fantastic."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesWell obviously I went to the school and I'm very happy and successful in my line of work. I would definitely recommend it to people looking for a good time and lots of learning.
Program Reputation7As far as I know, the school has a fairly strong reputation in Medical Massage. In my eyes, I think it's absolutely amazing!
Program Quality8The program is a very hands=on, intellectual experience, in which you meet a lot of people. The specialists teaching you are very friendly, thoughtful and patient and I felt like I knew them very well after just a short amount of time.
Instruction9The showed you what to do right then and there themselves and were very descriptive and moral boosting while doing it. They were patient with everyone participating, no matter how many times it took to get it genuinely correct.
How Difficult6Personally, I thought it was not all that bad work-wise, as I had a lot of fun doing it! My trainer said I was a natural.
Hands-On vs. BookishNot much book learning was involved. Some, but not much. It was mostly hands-on which I greatly enjoyed.
Schedule Flexibility4This is really the only thing I didn't like about the school. My schedule was a little bit strict, and I would have changed it if I could, but nothing I couldn't work out!
Academic Facilities8Really great. We never had a problem with space, professor accessibility or anything. I never had a problem asking a specific question whenever I needed it.
Social Life7We didn't really do many spirit-related things, no athletics, not many parties. However, the people were very nice and friendly and we did often do things together outside of school and still do.
Placement Services7Very good, the referred me to multiple places with job offers, one of them is the place I currently work. I love it and my fellow staff so much!
Alumni Network9It is great, really, I keep in touch with trainers and classmates weekly for the most part. We use various social networks to keep in touch.

Ohio College Of Massotherapy • Fairlawn, OH
Studying Massage Therapy (completion in 2009)

3/12/2012

"Overall, the experience I had at OCM was very uplifting, positive, and prepared me very well for my career. I only had a few negative things to say about the school."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesIf you're looking for a straight forward, good massage school, OCM is definitely the place. You learn a lot from a very knowledgeable staff, and they prepare you overall for life as an LMT.
Program Reputation9The school is well known for providing a good education, and preparing you for your boards very nicely. Most places in the massage industry around my city know of the school.
Program Quality8Ohio college of Massotherapy is a very curriculum rich school, and it prepares you well for the state boards. It also prepares you well for life as a massage therapist.
Instruction8The teachers were all very well informed. Most worked in the fields they taught - the anatomy professors were doctors, the massage teachers were LMT's.
How Difficult8The work is very challenging, especially learning all the bones, nerves and muscles. It is very intense and involved, requiring a lot of studying.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere's a good mix of hands on vs book learning. Most anatomy and physiology classes are based on book learning and lectures, but massage can only really be learned hands on.
Schedule Flexibility7When I started, there was a lot more flexibility in the schedules, with evening and weekends. As I continued on in the program, the class sizes got smaller, so the schedules become more inflexible.
Academic Facilities8The academic facilities were all very well prepared for the students. There was an extensive library, very good computers, web access in all rooms, and hands on staff!
Social Life3OCM wasn't a social school, as it is designed as a two year tech school for LMT's. There isn't a school team or anything.
Placement Services6There wasn't much in the way of follow up. They didn't help you try to find jobs, but they did prepare a list of people looking for LMT's.
Alumni Network6There isn't a lot of follow up with alumni from the school. No invitations back, no calls to see how we are doing in the field.
