Would Recommend?yesI was able to learn more than I thought any massage school could ever teach me. Originally I have lived my life in Oregon but when I did my research of massage schools this was the only one that taught as many modalities as well as basic medical knowledge in order to better help our clients.
Program Reputation8It is popular in the northern Colorado area and up to Wyoming. They have a good standing with the businesses in the area. Local businesses know that the students who graduate from IBMC will be knowledgeable and well-trained in massage.
Program Quality10I believe IBMC offers a wide variety of classes in massage modalities. The wide range of classes give each student a chance to try out and decide what modalities they like and want to specialize in. They also have many classes in anatomy and physiology, as well as classes that help you prepare for the real world once you graduate.
Instruction10Every class that is required is helpful. The curriculum teaches you how to provide clients with modalities and how to provide them without injury. They did a great job of teaching us things we need to know from basic anatomy and physiology to medical terminology and how to interview for a position as a massage therapist.
How Difficult8It was challenging in many way but as long as you studied and did the homework you would learn the material. If you had troubles in one area they provided tutors. They insured that the material was difficult but also made sure you were ready by the time you took the tests and quizzes.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a lot of book learning at first but it was all necessary and helped when starting the hands-on work. The second half of the program was mainly hands-on, with only a few classes that focused on success after graduation.
Schedule Flexibility8They offered morning, noon and night classes all year long. The only time the schedule was not flexible was during the last few weeks during internships. It was very hard to work while at the intern site during the set hours the school gave.
Academic Facilities9They had computers available in the student areas for us to use whenever we needed. We had a small resource center that had books for the students to use as sources for papers or just extra information about a modality they were interested in.
Social Life10There was a lot of school spirit and social events. During the warmer months they held barbecues and assemblies, honoring students who had a 3.5 GPA or higher. These assemblies included drawings for prizes as well as letting knew students know who they could talk to for any academic needs they had.
Placement Services10While in school they work on getting you an internship at a business. After graduation they call to make sure you have found a job in your field, or if not, they assist you in finding one.
Alumni Network10They're there if you ever need help finding a job after graduation; directly after or even 10 or 15 years down the road. Just before graduation they have you intern at a local business, and after graduation many students are offered jobs at the place they interned at.
