Would Recommend?noThe quality of education is much better at other schools. Other programs will offer great instructors, up-to-date equipment, and more job placement opportunities.
Program Reputation5Several medical assisting programs have popped up in Honolulu. They have bigger budgets and more experienced instructors than Med-Assist.
Program Quality5The program was quick. It did not allow time for training to sink in.
Instruction5The instructors did not come from real medical backgrounds. One instructor was a former veterinarian technician and another was a former pharmaceutical sales rep.
How Difficult5The instruction was catered for average people. We just learned the necessary basics of medical assisting.
Hands-On vs. BookishBecause of the lack of equipment, most learning was done through reading. The laboratory part of instruction was lacking.
Schedule Flexibility5The school has day and evening classes. Because of the short length of the program, the attendance policy is very strict.
Academic Facilities3The school's equipment is outdated. For example, transcription instruction is done on typewriters, rather than computers.
Social Life1The program was only 9 months long. Not enough time to foster school spirit or organize social events.
Placement Services2They do not have a strong relationship with local clinics/physicians; therefore, they cannot provide good job placement opportunities.
Alumni Network3The school does not have a very good networking system. They do not keep in touch with former students.
