"I learned a lot from going to school at NCCC. I was able to get help when I needed it, and I was able to get plenty of hands-on experience before I was set loose into the job world."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | It is a good school to go to for anything in the nursing field. It's not as competitive as the others around the area, yet the teachers are great. You get a lot of education for a decent price. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | I have heard many things about the nursing program. Almost all of the things I've heard are good. It is one of the best nursing programs around Southeast Kansas. |
| Program Quality | 9 | NCCC is a great school for nursing. It's not a very big school, so there is not as much variety in the professors or classes you can take. However, the nurses/teachers are extremely knowledgeable. |
| Instruction | 8 | I learned what I needed to know. They were very good at demonstrating and providing labs for us to learn how to actually DO the skill, instead of just reading about it. |
| How Difficult | 7 | Any nursing program is going to be challenging. Since this was at NCCC, it wasn't as challenging as going to a larger, more competitive school. Teachers were usually readily available if you had any questions. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | We were required to learn from the book before we could practice any procedures. However, you need to have hands-on training to be prepared for the job. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | NCCC offers many different types of classes that would work with most any schedule. I took an evening class that worked a lot better than a class during the day. |
| Academic Facilities | 4 | The library is kind of small; however, it seemed that there were always computers available. Labs are being remodeled, so those will be nice to have. It is hard to get a hold of a teacher after class, because many don't have anything after the class, so they usually aren't on campus very long. |
| Social Life | 3 | NCCC did have different social activities, but I lived off campus and did not hear about different activities happening on campus. It's easier to stay connected when you are living on campus. |
| Placement Services | 6 | They don't provide that many job placement services, as it is a smaller school; however, it is not that difficult to find a job in the nursing field. People are always going to need a CNA or HHA. |
| Alumni Network | 4 | Most nursing alumni tend to move away from the area. There aren't many opportunities in the area, as the degree is something that is able to be used in all areas. |
