Would Recommend?yesHesser College provides an intimate learning environment. The instructors do a wonderful job at preparing students for working in the field of Psychology.
Program Reputation7Hesser College's Psychology department has a great reputation. The instructors are well educated and the classes are interesting.
Program Quality9Hesser College is a small school so the teacher to student ratio was always low, providing a more intimate learning environment. Many of the professors worked in the fields in which they taught, which brought much life experience to the classroom.
Instruction9Professors who taught from life experience brought an element of reality to the courses. They did a great job at giving us students a very real image of what to expect in the work force.
How Difficult5The course work was at times heavy, but overall was manageable for one holding a full-time job. The learning materials and lectures were relevant and almost always interesting and engaging.
Hands-On vs. BookishAlthough there were lectures, the classes were always more hands on. We were always doing projects, writing papers, or conducting research of some kind.
Schedule Flexibility10Hesser College offers a wide variety of learning methods. They offer day, evening, weekend, summer, and on-line classes. You can live on campus or commute to class. They also have 5 different campuses throughout New Hampshire.
Academic Facilities4The library is not very large and could use more books, computers, and study areas. The classrooms are average, but the desks in some classes are small (high school size). The professors are easily accessible and will often go out of their way to meet wit
Social Life4I was a night student so I was not involved in any school athletics or clubs. Hesser has a basketball team but I am not sure of any other teams. Sometimes at night they would have free pizza and ice cream sundaes which was great!
Placement Services8Career services works hard at helping students find employment or internships. They have late hours and are usually available the same day you request to see someone.
Alumni Network3I receive regular updates from the National Honors Society about scholarships and events taking place. As far as the college itself, I have not received anything after graduation as far as alumni events or news.

Manchester Community College • Manchester, NH

"The classes weren't too big. The teachers knew you and they cared. The program was well planned and quite enjoyable. It made you feel like you were important too."

Would Recommend?yesIf people want a school that personally cares about them and whether or not they succeed, Manchester Community College is definitely where they should attend classes. The staff is passionate about what they do, and they love to teach and help students achieve their goals.
Program Reputation10My school's reputation is outstanding. They have a 100% pass rate for the boards exam and they have great accreditation.
Program Quality10I love the school I attended. They had all the latest equipment, and we got really great hands-on training with simulation dummies and labs. We also got a good amount of clinical time, so that we could get the skills and experience we needed.
Instruction10Information was always timely and updated. Everything we learned was directly geared towards optimizing our skills in order to be best prepared for working in the field on our own.
How Difficult9I got my CNA (or LNA in NH) certification through the RN nursing program I was attending. The program was rigorous, challenging and completely focused.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a lot of book reading, but there was also a lot of hands-on learning. We had two days of lecture, but we had one day of lab and two days of clinical, so we had plenty of hands-on learning and book reading time.
Schedule Flexibility8Flexibility isn't great. For the nursing lectures, they only have classes scheduled for certain days. As for the other prerequisites that we are obligated to take, those classes have a much wider range of flexibility for times, days and seasons.
Academic Facilities10School has everything that we could possibly need. We have plenty of space in classrooms, lecture halls, the library, private rooms, laboratories, etc. Academic advisors are always available to meet with students, no matter what they need. We have assigned advisors so that the student population is easily dispersed evenly.
Social Life9School was always having something for the student body. Every first week of the semester, they had student week, and they had all kinds of things to offer, from sample kits, like razors and shampoo, to stuffing your own teddy bears with school logo t-shirts on them, and they always had complimentary snacks and drinks. They did movie nights every week, with complimentary popcorn and drinks. They also had BBQs and bonfires. They had all kinds of things to keep the student body busy and happy.
Placement Services7Our school doesn't necessarily have a job placement program. Students can often find a job in one of the hospitals that we did our clinicals in. If they really liked the way we worked, or if we caught a mistake or helped prevent one, it was really a good key way to get our foot in the door.
Alumni NetworkI am not completely familiar with the alumni network. The program is so intense that I haven't had a chance to really familiarize myself with the alumni network and support.

River Valley Community College • Claremont, NH
Studying Licensed Nurse Aide/Certified Nurse Aide (completion in 2002)

3/11/2012

"The nurse aide program at RVCC was very satisfactory. The course was quick and the instructor was on point. I enjoyed being able to work with the residents at the local nursing home during our clinical hours."

Would Recommend?yesI would highly recommend RVCC to anyone in the local area looking to participate in a nurse aide program. The educational experience was both academically and personally rewarding.
Program Reputation5The River Valley Community College offers an array of courses, but the LNA program is very popular. Most of the jobs available in my local area are nursing positions of one form or another, so this program offers an entry into the nursing field.
Program Quality10I was extremely satisfied with RVCC, because the instructor was passionate about the field and the class was of adequate size. The course I took was only 8 weeks long, so I was able to start working in the field quickly.
Instruction10The quality of instruction at RVCC was extremely good. The instructor was passionate about the course and had worked in the field herself for many years. My favorite part of the instruction was the clinicals, because we worked in the local nursing home on those days.
How Difficult3The LNA program was fairly simple. If you had the desire to work in the field, did the required reading, and paid attention in class, it was a breeze.
Hands-On vs. BookishAs with all nursing programs, the course was a mix of hands-on and book learning. In order to earn your CNA or LNA, you are required to have hours of both book learning and clinical training in the field.
Schedule Flexibility4The course schedule for the LNA program at the RVCC is not very flexible. The program is only offered twice a year, during the fall and spring semesters. The college does offer a part-time course and a full-time course.
Academic Facilities5River Valley Community College is a community/technical college, so the amenities are not quite as impressive as a state college or university. The library and other media resources are adequate enough, and the classroom space is sufficient. The college is always busy and the tutors can sometimes be a bit delayed in responding to the students.
Social Life3My social experience at RVCC was almost nonexistent. I was primarily focused on my program, my current job, and my family, so this is mostly my fault. I did make a lot of new friends, though.
Placement Services5RVCC works closely with the local nursing homes, so job placement after graduation is fairly easy. The instructor was more than happy to write a letter of recommendation for those who deserved one.
Alumni Network3I have yet to hear from the RVCC alumni department. I did not attend a traditional graduation; I simply received my certification.
