Fairfield University • Fairfield, CT
Studying English (completion in 2009)

"Attending Fairfield University was one of the best decisions of my life, hands down. Not only did I get a quality education, but I got to spend four years living in beautiful Fairfield, CT. I also met some of my best friends while attending Fairfield University."

Would Recommend?yesThe great thing about my career path of becoming a lawyer is that you can go at it with almost any type of academic background. I chose to study english/journalism, because when I first entered college I originally wanted to become a writer. While I am no longer pursuing that career path, writing is an essential part of working in the legal field. I would absolutely say that Fairfield trained me well in my current career.
Program Reputation9Fairfield's english program certainly has a great reputation. Many of the teachers and advisors are distinguished writers, something that certainly drew me in.
Program Quality9Although I did not continue to pursue a career path with my english/journalism degree, my school did provide a great program. Since starting the major till now, my writing skills have drastically improved, which is very helpful in the career I am currently in.
Instruction10Had I continued on that writing path on a professional level, it would have well prepared me. The quality of instruction was very beneficial, with lots of advice and aid along the way.
How Difficult7Sure, compared to other major areas of studies such as biology or accounting, the work load of an English major is not much. But that is not to say we had it easy. There were excessive amounts of assignments, and I wouldn’t say there was ever an easy period.
Hands-On vs. BookishFor my journalism program, while there was quite a lot of reading involved, our professors made it a point to constantly get us out there in the field and get a first hand, hands on experience as a journalist.
Schedule Flexibility10They are absolutely great when it comes to schedule flexibility. No matter what is going on in your life that you need your class schedule to work around, Fairfield is able to do it. I certainly took advantage of their online courses, as well as their evening classes.
Academic Facilities10Of all the universities that I had visited prior to attending Fairfield Universities, none of them had a nicer library that Fairfield's. Not only that, but most, if not all, of Fairfield's classrooms were up to date with the latest computer technology and lab equipment.
Social Life10Despite not having any sports team being very successful, our school had tremendous school spirit. Every basketball home game was sold out, with all students getting into it. As far as parties, Fairfield I think had the best party scene out of all of the universities I had visited, and trust me I have visited a lot.
Placement Services7That is a tough question to answer giving the certain circumstances our job market is currently in. Had I graduated a few years earlier, I am sure my school would help be tremendously at finding a job. But because of untimely economic problems, and especially because of the massive slump the journalism field is experiencing, they were not able to find me something.
Alumni Network10Fairfield University has an amazing alumni network. Their alumni association does an excellent job at keeping our class together and connecting even years after graduation. Thanks to my alumni association, I am able to attend at least 3 events a year that are organized by them.

"I was very satisfied with the breadth and depth of the faculty experience and program learning. The program prepared me very well for employment after graduation."

Would Recommend?yesAbsolutely, you will get your money's worth at Quinnipiac. The professors are caring, make time for you during office hours, and you never feel like a number because the classes generally have less than 20 students.
Program Reputation6Quinnipiac is known better for its mass communications and business programs, but it has highly regarded lawyers as adjunct professors who provide great insight. The program is growing in stature and more employers are looking to the program as a source for employees.
Program Quality6The major provide me with a good background in litigation. The program was very specific on issues related to litigation.
Instruction7We were required to complete an internship during our senior year, at which time you had the option of selecting a position with a broad range of legal employers. I was very well prepared for my first day at work, and a bachelor's degree provided more skills than a traditional certificate program.
How Difficult7The program is difficult because you have to learn the legal jargon. The work load is commensurate with the amount of work I have on a daily basis.
Hands-On vs. BookishA couple courses focus on the journey through an action, at which time you are exposed to the important areas of a lawsuit. Book learning supplements the theory on which the procedures are based.
Schedule Flexibility6The program is somewhat flexible, offering classes during the day on the core issues, and at a broad range of times during the evening for the courses taught by adjuncts. There weren't many online options during my time because online learning was in its infancy.
Academic Facilities8Quinnipiac is on the cutting edge of technology resources. The school stresses technology as a means to improve education and employment in the 21st century.
Social Life8Quinnipiac has an oxymoronic diverse student body full of non diverse, diverse individuals. Everyone is social, personable and friendly.
Placement Services2I didn't know if Quinnipiac had a job placement or career services assistance program.
Alumni Network4The alumni network is scant, depending on where you are employed. If you can find an alumnus in your locale, then they are generally helpful.
