Would Recommend?yesThe school is set in a non-distracting environment with adequate entertainment for the weekends. The coursework, faculty and facilities are conducive to learning.
Program Reputation5Most people that I have talked to have not heard of Slippery Rock University. In the case where they have heard of this school, their response is excellent.
Program Quality8My program was very strong in neurological rehabilitation, but lacked in other areas such as manual therapy and treatment protocols. Upon entering my clinicals and my first job, I felt like handling techniques and treatment protocols were weak.
Instruction8The curriculum for my program was fairly well rounded with the exception of manual therapy. The classwork prepared me well for my clinical experiences in terms of content and career preparation.
How Difficult9The program caseload was heavy but do-able with a good support system. I found assistance with studying with other classmates and practiced clinical skills with many different people.
Hands-On vs. BookishMy coursework was perfectly mixed with classroom learning and hands on experiences. We had the opportunity to travel to Pittsburgh for many hands on opportunities with real patients before entering clinical work.
Schedule Flexibility1The schedule was set in stone without any options. All classes were held Mon-Fri and there were 3 semesters a year (summer, fall and spring).
Academic Facilities10The DPT program at Slippery Rock is extremely new and all housed in one building with it's own computer lab, research lab, classrooms, faculty offices, and cadaver lab with locker rooms. The library is located very close to the DPT building and has conference rooms that are ideal for group study sessions.
Social Life5These are areas that were not of interest to me while in a doctorate level program. My classmates and I were very social on the weekends, but this was not associated with the school.
Placement Services3I received absolutely no guidance in this area.
Alumni Network1I have only heard from my school once since graduation 4 years ago. This was to survey my classmates and determine which type of PT we decided to go into.
