"My education has been a boon to my entire career. With the exception of speech training, I got everything I needed there."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesThe University of Georgia is a wonderful school. In the College of Journalism and Communications, you become a part of a smaller group that receives more hands on attention and allows you to become personally acquainted with your instructors.
Program Reputation10The University of Georgia School of Journalism and Communications is rated as one of the best in the country. It also gains national prestige as the home of the Peabody Awards for Excellence in radio and television.
Program Quality8My training in writing, advertising, publications, and news work for newspapers, radio, and TV was very good. However, I was given no speech training for working on camera or on microphone in radio and TV.
Instruction9I have been able to use my training my entire career. It gave me a leg up on people who had no training and no experience.
How Difficult3It was easy for me because I was extremely interested in the subject matter. People who couldn't write didn't do as well.
Hands-On vs. BookishEach course has a textbook that we had to be very familiar with. However, we had many practical exercises where we wrote our own news stories, produced radio and television programs, and conducted advertising campaigns.
Schedule Flexibility10The college has a full campus schedule. It offers summer courses and correspondence courses online.
Academic Facilities10The college has all the necessary facilities for a journalism program, including a television and radio studio.
Social Life10There are extensive school spirit programs, especially around the football games. But there are also many dances and parties hosted by fraternities, sororities, clubs, etc.
Placement Services9Through the school, I was able to obtain two summer internships, one in public relations, the other with a radio station. When I graduated, my school connections resulted in two interviews with television stations, one of which gave me my first job.
Alumni Network5Football supporters are extremely supportive. Supporters of the journalism school are considerably less so.

"I loved Emory. Everything about my four year experience was phenomenal."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesYes. The main reason is because of the high quality liberal arts classes that prepare you for everything and anything.
Program Reputation9Again, Emory is a great school. It is a top ranked school and it's reputation is impeccable.
Program Quality8Emory is a phenomenal school. My major didn't directly relate to my career choice, though,
Instruction4As I stated earlier, my major didn't prepare me for my career. It was a liberal arts education.
How Difficult8Emory is a top ranked school in the US. Course work is tailored to elite students.
Hands-On vs. BookishI have no additional thoughts to add to this. Courses are both hands on and book learning.
Schedule Flexibility8From what I recall, the class schedule was diverse and flexible. I am sure that in the years since I graduated it has become more so.
Academic Facilities10Emory has insane resources. The school is heavily endowed by Coca Cola and has a world renowned campus. The libraries and computer centers are top notch.
Social Life10I loved Emory. From academics to my sorority social life, I loved college.
Placement ServicesI don't have any experience in using the career center at Emory. My opinion on this matter is not developed.
Alumni Network8There are many programs. I don't take full advantage of them, but I know they exist.

South University • Savannah, GA
Studying Business (completion in 2012)

"Overall I am satisfied. I enjoy the program and the learning experience I have had so far."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI would recommend South to others. The only drawback is the cost.
Program Reputation6The reputation of the school is good. The business program has a good reputation and there are over 300 students in the program now.
Program Quality5Classes seemed fairly easy. Not much to do except reading.
Instruction5Instructors set up schedules. Most of the work involved giving presentation and reading books.
How Difficult5Classes are easy and have seemed to get easier. I'm getting good grades.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe business program is book learning and there are many papers to write. This semester, there is finally an internship and a business model to complete.
Schedule Flexibility6The program is taught day, night, or online. If you just do your work you can pass.
Academic Facilities8South has an excellent library and great online tools. The campus is large and has everything you need for a good college education.
Social Life6My experience has been good so far. There is always something going on and most of it is free.
Placement Services6The business school has a very good job placement rate. I have had many phone calls and emails about employment after I graduate.
Alumni Network5I don't know much about the alumni. I have talked to several who have attended school and they all said it was a good program.

"I loved my time there! It was a great four years."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?yesUGA provides a great college experience. And more importantly, after you graduate, you have a great alumni network!
Program Reputation8The journalism school is highly ranked. In fact, the PR major is ranked number 4 in the country.
Program Quality9Not only did UGA's award-winning journalism school provide excellent academic programs, their public relations major is one of the best in the country. They offer electives that focus on the future of the media industry, providing great career prep.
Instruction9The core classes provided insight into the media industry as a whole, which is basic to any career in public relations. Our final class as a PR major allowed the experience of working on a real campaign with a real world client.
How Difficult7As a communications program, the academic theories were pretty straight forward. However, most of the program courses consisted of group projects and presentations, allowing for great preparation for the real working world.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe public relations program was very hands-on, with several required courses focusing on simulating real world communications campaigns. I'm sure, however, that other majors were more focused on book learning.
Schedule Flexibility6I was offered standard class hours and some required courses were only offered one or two times a week. However, the required courses allowed for a lot of opportunities to double major, etc.
Academic Facilities8All of the journalism school's advisors have worked in the various industries, so they have all had experience in the real world. In addition, we had several production studios and labs.
Social Life8It was a great school to attend with a great football team and huge student body .
Placement Services8The journalism school at UGA had many networking events and career fairs throughout the year, as well as many recruiting sessions on campus for larger companies.
Alumni Network8I got my current job from an alumni connection! In fact, three of my current colleagues also went to UGA.
