Career and School Info for RNs (Registered Nurses) in Kansas

I wish that I could stress to everyone that is a non-traditional student, the ease associated with the program that I am enrolled in. Many people believe that for various reasons they are not able to go back to school due to schedule conflicts, financial reasons or simply a level of difficulty. The nursing school that I attend has made it very possible for anyone who currently works outside employment to still be able to achieve their dream of a Bachelor's degree and not have to change their employment. The program allows the students to have minimal changes in their lives to not disrupt their current professional situation and makes it very feasible with one who has a family. By not having given times to physically sit in a traditional classroom, the ability to be in a virtual classroom at one's own time is a phenomenal alternative to further one's education.

I feel very privileged to be enrolled in a program that cares so much about their students to develop a program that enables them to further their degree and not only reach a Bachelor's degree but a Master's degree if they so desire. I would say that the one thing that I wish I would have known about my school before I entered is why did I wait so long to make the choice to better my life and further my education?

One thing I wish that I would have known before enrolling in my nursing school is that I would be in a class of a 122 people for my first year. I thought that classes were divided into smaller groups for lecture. Nursing is a very science based field with lots of lecture and sitting in class with 121 other students makes it hard to focus sometimes. As far as that actual field of nursing, I knew what I was getting into. I have worked in the medical field for six years now. As for new students, I suggest that they shadow a nurse or become a certified nursing assistant prior to enrollment. That will ensure that the new students do understand what nursing is all about.

I also wish that I would have known all of the other fees that get added on to the tuition bill each semester. I have had participation fees, lab fees and then book fees. Book fees are expected, but they have been very expensive. Another trivial aspect about the nursing school that I do attend is the parking situation. Each student can purchase a parking permit for the semester, although that does not grantee that each student has a parking spot. I have known quite a few people who have gotten tickets due to inadequate parking, which can be frustrating.
