Program Reputation10Pass rating for the NCLEX of graduates of Hopkinsville Community College are very high. Higher than most surrounding bachelor programs.
Program Quality10Hopkinsville Community College is an excellent program. It is a very difficult program, however the preparation and knowledge base it gives you prepares you to the highest extent for taking state board examinations.
Instruction10Clinical experience starts from the first week of the program, and it prepares you for what you will face in your career. Lecture/ education instruction always coincides with clinical rotation, which makes for a quality learning experience.
How Difficult7Any nursing program is difficult and requires a tremendous workload. Actual take home work was minimal, however the amount of study time in preparation for exams equals a 40 hour work week.
Hands-On vs. Bookish90% of the knowledge base was book learning. Hands on learning took place in the clinical setting.
Schedule Flexibility1Full week with the exception of Fridays. No weekends. No nights and no online options.
Academic Facilities5Media and computer resources were always available. Classroom space was limited because it was shared with LPN nursing programs. Lab space was sometimes limited as well, due to it being shared.
Social Life5Events were minimal for the nursing program. College activities and organized events were better for other majors. There wasn't time while in the program for participation in anything other than nursing.
Placement Services1There was no career service assistance. At the end of the program, as an assignment we put together a portfolio to begin applying for jobs, and recommendation letters were written. There was no assistance in job placement.
Alumni Network5Support is provided if needed. However, actually getting individualized help is extremely difficult.
