Career and School Info for RNs (Registered Nurses) in Rhode Island

It is wise for any nursing student to look in depth into the schools they are considering. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience at this school as a nursing major, but I suppose that there are a few things I had overlooked in my search for a school that would fit who I am.

I wish that I had known that it was not completely necessary to purchase all of the books I had needed for nursing courses because some of them could be found in other places, such as the library, or could be purchased through a discount store, although I am sure this would be useful for any student. For my introduction to nursing course, each student had to purchase thirteen books; one per week. And for each week’s reading assignment, the entire book was not always needed. We often only had to read excerpts from books, and purchasing them all was quite costly. I suppose that can happen at any university with any major, but I do wish that I had known exactly what I would need for all of my courses so that I could better manage my spending.

One of the main reasons I had taken interest in this school at the start of my college search was because it offered a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, adequately prepared us to obtain a license in nursing, and clinicals were begun in the sophomore year. I had not checked into those details between first learning about the school and actually applying a bit later, but somewhere in between there the year in which clinical experiences began was pushed to the junior year in the program. I do wish I had known that upon applying, but I’m not sure if it would have made too much of a difference in my mindset anyway because so many other qualities of the nursing program at Salve Regina University were appealing to me.

I loved the fact that I would be working with a small group of nursing students, as a part of a small student body in the first place, and I was impressed with the nursing laboratory and curriculum so much that, despite not beginning a clinical until my third year of study, I was still pleased with this school. It is simply necessary and helpful to any student looking into a nursing school to really look into what each school has to offer you and whether you feel it will fit your needs and wants.
