Would Recommend?yesThey give you a solid foundation and they help you find a job.
Program Reputation10USC Upstate is one of the leading schools in our area for turning out nurses. It is also very respected by local hospitals.
Program Quality10USC Upstate was fantastic. They had a good curriculum and were good at preparing students for nursing in the "real world."
Instruction9I felt well prepared when I graduated, and felt that as far as book knowledge goes, I knew what I needed to know for my first hospital job. I did feel that at times the clinicals were slightly irrelevant and not consistent with real world nursing situations.
How Difficult9The curriculum was challenging and the work load was very high but also very appropriate. It was fun and challenging for me, and I felt that statistics were very telling about the difficulty. Our nursing class started with so many hopefuls, but only about half of us graduated with nursing degrees.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe great thing about USC Upstate is the mix of book learning and hands-on learning. The clinicals were very educational and hands on, while the class portion helped to solidify the principles.
Schedule Flexibility3Due to clinicals being held at certain times, there are many classes that are not flexible at all, and must be completed at certain times. You basically have to have no other life for 2 out of 4 years.
Academic Facilities10USC Upstate has wonderful facilities. The labs, classroom space, and availability of professors was wonderful. I don't think I would have made it through chemistry without my professor helping me a good deal outside of class.
Social Life5I was older when I attended college for nursing, so I was not there for a social experience. I did not get involved in social events there - I simply wanted a degree.
Placement Services10The school was very good about helping us to find and follow job leads. There were frequent career fairs.
Alumni Network5I periodically get emails about alumni functions. I generally do not have much time for alumni functions, and I generally don't care much about them anyway.
