Studying Nursing (completion in 2010)

• 3/21/2012
"Made it through the entire program on my first attempt. Passed the NCLEX on first attempt."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Program is at a community college which makes it affordable to almost anyone. School offers assistance to single parents as well. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | There are a lot of students applying to the program each semester. Nurse recruiters have said this school is not their favorite. |
| Program Quality | 5 | The application process seems like it could be improved. Program itself was easy to get through. |
| Instruction | 8 | Most of the instructors were very knowledgeable and came to class prepared to lecture. There were a couple of teachers who would show up late and unprepared. |
| How Difficult | 5 | I never really needed to study outside of class. Passed all exams with an 80 or better, most of them with 90 or better. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Book learning mostly happened on our own time, along with lectures from instructors. Every other day was spent in either simulation lab or in clinicals. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 2 | In the first semester of our program, there was a day and evening program. In the second semester the evening program was combined with the day program without giving students a choice. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | The library and simulation lab were brand new facilities and were excellent. The health careers building was old, small and in need of updating. |
| Social Life | 8 | The student nurse association was great, and I'm still friends with most of the people from that. The pinning committee was lead by an unorganized instructor which made it difficult to get anything planned. |
| Placement Services | 3 | We had one career day approximately 4 weeks before the end of the program. Only 2 hospitals came, one of which had 11 open positions and we were a class of 76. |
| Alumni Network | 3 | I'm not sure if there is an alumni network for the nursing program. Instructors are still available for support purposes. |
