North West Technical • Springdale, AR
Studying Computer Networking (completion in 2004)

"The school's instructors do not know how to help students learn. The cost is too expensive."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noToo expensive to attend. Also, you do not learn enough to start a career.
Program Reputation1I Don't feel like the reputation of the program is very good due to a lack of students attending. Also, the reputation, according to my experience, is that they do not provide real help for alumni in finding jobs.
Program Quality5The school was very structured and the path to graduate was clear and it was affordable. I thought the school was very easy and did not teach me much.
Instruction2Did not learn much and the curriculum was not followed by instructors. Lots of open book tests.
How Difficult1There were lots of open book tests. There were also team projects and hands on projects.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe had several hands on projects. There were also some hands on tests and group tests.
Schedule Flexibility3They do offer day and night classes. The summer classes are not worth taking.
Academic Facilities1The computers on campus are very old some are donated. Also the library is a joke - it's very old.
Social Life1No school spirt. Also no social events or athletics.
Placement Services1The job placement is a joke - jobs that pay 8 bucks an hour. Also, some job are with temp services.
Alumni Network1Alumni network does not exist. The support after graduation is there to help find a job, but the jobs offered did not pay much.

University Of Arkansas • Fayetteville, AR
Studying Linguistics (completion in 2000)

"I was satisfied with my education. In retrospect, I would have gone into another field, however."

Would Recommend?yesI would recommend that people in my field enter the business school. My own department did a good job on polishing my communication skills, but I lacked practical skills when I first started out.
Program Reputation7It's a good school for linguistics. It's not exactly MIT, but there have been advances in linguistics made at Arkansas.
Program Quality7The quality of education at my university was adequate. Support systems for students were inferior.
Instruction8My professors were well-versed in their subject areas. They were generally accessible outside of class.
How Difficult6This was not a challenging course of study. I was well-prepared for the level of difficulty involved.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere were practical considerations made, but it was mostly bookwork. The education department did the best at hands-on projects.
Schedule Flexibility8Classes were provided in a wide enough range to accommodate scheduling. I was able to get what I needed every semester.
Academic Facilities7Our library was well equipped and well staffed. Computer labs were provided in good quantity.
Social Life4I did not make lasting friendships in college. I wasn't mature enough to do so.
Placement Services1I received no help with job placement. If there were services available, I was not made aware of them.
Alumni Network1The alumni programs consist solely of people begging for money. There really isn't much else to say about them.

Southeast Arkansas College • Pine Bluff, AR
Studying Arts And Sciences (completion in 2008)

"I really do not have many complaints about my school. I obtained a solid education that is transferable if I decide to continue my education. I graduated with honors and found the process extremely satisfying."

Would Recommend?yesI chose to pursue a generalized field of study because I hope to further my education and switch careers at some point in my life. For those that are in a sales related field, this college has technical business degrees that require several credit hours in courses that would definitely be beneficial to their careers.
Program Reputation5My school offered the basic core courses that are transferable to four year colleges. Most are able to seamlessly continue on when they decide to further their education.
Program Quality10I believe I received a solid education. I also appreciated the fact that several online classes were offered, which allowed me to work while obtaining my degree.
Instruction7I took several business courses and although I did learn several new things, in a retail environment, a lot is learned from basic hands on experience. My education enhanced my abilities to understand things like profit and loss statements, but it really did not change the way I perform my job.
How Difficult5I found my program of study fairly easy. The biggest thing was figuring out how to balance school work with real work. If my entire time could have been allotted to just college, I would have probably taken more challenging courses.
Hands-On vs. BookishAt this school if you take on campus classes you get a good "hands-on" education (especially in business and communication classes). If you take courses online you are expected to be able to excel through more of a book learning process.
Schedule Flexibility10My program caters to non-traditional students. They offer day, night and internet courses. They also, occasionally, offer Saturday courses.
Academic Facilities10All of my instructors were readily available upon request if I ever had any questions. The library, lab and media resources were all acceptable.
Social Life1There were very few organized social events at this school. It does not have an athletic department and the only organizations are the student senate, an honors group and a business major group.
Placement ServicesI know that they did offer a job fair at least once a semester. However, I never attended one of these functions and really do not know how successful they are.
Alumni Network3My school caters to non-traditional students. Since many of the student have families and jobs, there are very few extra curricular activities offered. Most go to this school to obtain core courses that can later be transferred over to a four year college.
