Would Recommend?maybeGetting a broad education is an asset, but there are definitely other benefits to receiving an education in a specialized area. Whereas I'm going to end up pursuing a master's to gain that additional focus, one might be able to do that in a shorter amount of time.
Program Reputation8Neuroscience is more difficult than Psychology, as are a few other majors. In the end, Psychology is incredibly difficult because it spans a wide breadth of subjects including math, sociology, and neuroscience.
Program Quality10A lot of undergraduate psychology programs are not as challenging as they could be. The program I took was incredibly thorough and included many courses within the fields of psychology, neuroscience, and research.
Instruction5The courses I took, and the degree I acquired, were not geared towards this sort of a job. However, I feel that my college did not do a great job of preparing me to enter the "real world" anyways.
How Difficult10
Hands-On vs. BookishIt was very much a mix of both. There was a lot of reading followed by a lot of discussions.
Schedule Flexibility1We took one course for three and a half weeks (one semester-long course). The classes were scheduled at any point during those three and a half weeks--any number of days per week, etc.
Academic Facilities10Wonderful! We had a main library with computer and tech resources, media centers in each of the dorms, labs in many buildings, etc. Each branch of education (social sciences, natural sciences, history, etc.) had its own building with classrooms, workrooms, labs, etc.
Social Life7There was a bit too much partying for my liking... but I think that is sadly just a trend we are seeing these days.
Placement Services5These services are there, if you request them. But for those of us with anxiety problems it is a little difficult to get that done through correspondence.
Alumni Network7The alumni are present, financially speaking, but not so much physically. I would have loved to have a bit more actual alums around.

"I am very happy with what I achieved during my schooling and very proud to call myself an alum of this institution. In addition to my education, my time in school contributed in numerous ways to my quality of life."

Would Recommend?yesI would recommend Colorado State University to anyone, whether they were pursuing a career in sales management or any other career, for that matter. I felt as though students can leave this institution confident in their education and skills, and confident in their future.
Program Reputation8My university has been consistently highly ranked among the best schools given the cost of tuition. The school offers multiple programs of study that ranked among the best of all U.S. colleges.
Program Quality8My school offered a very comprehensive program of study with a very accomplished faculty. My brief experience in graduate school made me feel as though I had been very well prepared by my undergraduate degree.
Instruction8Very significant amount learned during my time of study. Again, preparation for graduate studies seemed more than adequate.
How Difficult9My degree was considered by most to be a "pre-professional degree." As such, the difficulty of the coursework and material was considerable.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe opportunity for hands on learning is always available through a variety of ways. Internships, laboratory work, research collaborations, etc. are available to all willing to put forth the effort to get involved.
Schedule Flexibility8In addition to regular course schedules, online classes, summer classes, evening classes, and weekend classes are all offered. These aspects made attending class while working very easy.
Academic Facilities8The university provided, free of cost, tutoring for a very wide variety of courses. In addition, academic advisors were always available, as were multiple free computer labs, and the ability to rent laptops and other media devices.
Social Life8My university has and has always had a very loyal student body. Fan following for athletics has always been high, and organized events occur continuously throughout the school year, including free concerts from well known musical acts.
Placement Services8The career services center offers many resources for career placement, etc. Services include resume help, job listings, and other services free of charge to students and alumni.
Alumni Network8Alumni of my university are very dedicated and proud of this institution. The university goes to extensive lengths to stay in contact with alumni and keep them involved with the school.

"I had a pleasant experience. I received my degree, which attracted employers and helped start my career."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesYes, but unfortunately the major is no longer offered.
Program Reputation1The major is gone.
Program Quality5My major was discontinued in 2005 due to a lack of interest. I believe that the classes offered watered down content to make it easy for more students to pass successfully.
Instruction5See my previous answer. It applies to both of these questions.
How Difficult5Again, see my previous answer.
Hands-On vs. BookishAlmost every class related to the program was hands on. There were many projects and little bookwork.
Schedule Flexibility10I never had a problem with scheduling flexibility. I was always able to fill my semesters with the proper course load.
Academic Facilities7The facilities were above average. The campus was still improving when I left.
Social Life5I was focused on my studies, so my social experience was limited.
Placement Services5The career center wasn't focused. The employees handed out brochures and that was about it.
Alumni Network5The school could do a better job of promoting the alumni association. If it offered any incentive to alumni to participate, I believe there would be more participation.

Studying Business Admin (completion in 2010)

"I love the location of the school - it wasn't too far from home, but just far enough. I think that UNC was a place that I was able to grow at and I am so glad I went there."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeBusiness is a hard degree which takes much dedication and effort. In the real world a degree in business can be used for almost anything and is wonderful.
Program Reputation10UNC is the place to major in business. They have the best reputation in the state and are ranked among the best in the US.
Program Quality10UNC's business school is the best in the state and is rated as one of the best in the US. I found that I had all the tools I needed for success.
Instruction10The professors that taught me were very knowledgeable in all that I learned. Whenever I had a question about something, it was answered correctly.
How Difficult8The classes were larger than most business classes and it was at times hard to work in large groups. The homework and tests were at such a high standard that it made them harder to pass, but made me more successful in the end.
Hands-On vs. BookishMost of our homework came right out of the books, as did our teachers' lessons. However, there was always a chance for hands on learning in the classroom.
Schedule Flexibility8The school works with many students to make sure they are taking the classes needed to graduate and do so on time. There are many online classes that you can take if a class does not fit into your regular schedule.
Academic Facilities8The gym is where the Denver Broncos used to train and it is wonderful. The classrooms are all up to date, however the library is fairly old and needs to be updated.
Social Life10I met the love of my life in college and some of the best friends I will ever have. I also had the chance to learn what I needed to in order to be successful in life.
Placement Services7There are several job fairs held throughout the year with top employers looking to hire many students. The structure of the fairs is wonderful because it gives students a chance to see what is out there.
Alumni Network5I don't have much information about the alumni. I do know that the business school wouldn't be the success it is without their contributions to it, though.

"My years here were great, and I continue to be thankful for the opportunities I received at this university. I can't think of a better place to have attended school."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesThe school provided me with all the tools I needed to be successful in life, and those tools continue to pay off for me to this very day. This university has everything any student could ask for.
Program ReputationI'm honestly not sure where the school ranks nationally. However, I would think it should rank fairly highly.
Program Quality9I have no idea what other schools provide in this area, but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary at my college. I enjoyed my time there and feel I got the most out of my schooling.
Instruction9The instruction was good. I loved almost all of my professors. Also, every single professor there would answer any question when it popped up and would talk about any other topics that might help their students.
How Difficult8The program was very difficult. However, it came pretty easy to me. I worked well with this information and it is really something that I saw myself doing, which made it a little easier for me.
Hands-On vs. BookishI did a lot of hands-on learning in class and with professors as needed. However, I know a lot of students who just preferred to read chapters in a book to learn the material. I think this is really up to each individual person.
Schedule Flexibility8I never had a problem scheduling classes. There were numerous times and days available, so it was pretty easy to get your requirements fulfilled.
Academic Facilities9I loved the facilities. The buildings were fairly new and well maintained. And, to be honest, I'm not that big on noticing things like this, but they seemed more than nice.
Social Life9The social experience was great. There are tons of people in your major and other areas of the school to mingle with, not to mention the experience of living in the dorms. I'm so glad I did this, as I met countless lifelong friends by living in the dorms.
Placement Services9From talking to other students, the school was very helpful in assisting them in any way possible. I ended up with a job for a company I worked for previously.
Alumni Network10I love my school's alumni network. There are constantly events, functions, etc., for any student to attend. I haven't taken full advantage of this, but I plan to in the near future.

University Of Colorado • Boulder, CO
Studying History (completion in 2009)

12/14/2011

"Socially, the school was amazing. Academically, I do wish I would have majored in another subject that may have been more applicable to real life."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesMy major is not very applicable to my current work, but I do know that my university has a very good business school. My friends who went through it have all said it has helped them in their current jobs.
Program ReputationI do not know the current reputation of my school's program. I have not talked to anyone from that department for a couple years, so I cannot properly rate the current reputation.
Program Quality7Many of my professors seemed to care more about the book they were writing or the research they were conducting, rather than actually teaching the class. However, two of my professors were absolutely amazing and made my senior year a good one.
Instruction5The quality of instruction was directly related to the amount of energy some of my professors put into teaching the class. Which, unfortunately, was not much.
How Difficult7It was above average, because of the amount of reading we had to do. But the grading of essays and exams was relatively easy, compared to what my peers told me about their programs.
Hands-On vs. BookishAs a history major, you pretty much learn everything from reading. Every once in a while, we would watch film clips or have classroom discussions, but most is lecture and then reading.
Schedule Flexibility9We had the normal semester offerings with day and night classes. You can also take Maymester and two summer sessions, as well as internet courses.
Academic Facilities9The academic facilities are very nice. The library is massive and the internet catalogs they provide you with are extensive. There are peer review groups, writing centers, and tutor centers.
Social Life10The social experience at CU is very good, if you are an outgoing individual who likes a good party and outdoor activities. There are a lot of students, so something is always going on, and there is always a plethora of outdoor activities to get involved in. The school sports compete in competitive conferences (Pac 12), and the football games are extremely fun to attend. There are also numerous club and intramural sports that any student can participate in. The club rugby team and the club soccer team in particular are both very good and compete at high levels throughout the country.
Placement Services5It was average, because although we had job fairs, I do not know anyone who secured a job through one of them. Many students are out-of-state students, so placing them in jobs across the country is tough for the career services department.
Alumni Network7The alumni network is very good in terms of how many alumni are spread across the country. However, it is not so good in terms of alumni providing jobs or connections to jobs.

University Of Colorado • Boulder, CO
Studying Spanish Language And Literature (completion in 2007)

12/21/2011

"Overall, I am satisfied with my degree. I do feel that I could have gotten the same level of education and knowledge at a different institute."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeThe main reasons I continued at CU were the cost and the fact that they happened to have a reasonably well-known language department. In-state tuition was what made me choose CU when I was unsure of what subject I would study.
Program Reputation10I believe that CU still offers the same high level of instruction as when I was attending classes. I still feel that their language department is better for the in-state price than other options in Colorado.
Program Quality10CU has an outstanding reputation as a language school. I am very pleased with the degree I received and the work that I had to accomplish in order to earn that degree.
Instruction9There was very little career preparation; that is the only reason for the less-than-perfect rating. Everything else was topnotch.
How Difficult9There was a large workload. However, all it took was diligence and the willingness to do rote memorization.
Hands-On vs. BookishFor my major, it was almost strictly book learning. I was able to visit Nicaragua and there were a number of study abroad programs.
Schedule Flexibility7Fairly open, until you get to the upper-level classes. Once you were at the junior or senior level, the flexibility was almost nonexistent.
Academic Facilities10CU has always been top of the line. I never felt cheated or unsatisfied with any aspect of the campus.
Social LifeBased on the stereotypes and the large amount of partying, I focused mostly on study. I was not at school for the social aspect of college.
Placement Services7I received no help or direction regarding career placement. However, a number of my friends were able to discuss options and received direction from their counselors.
Alumni Network5Alumni network has not made an attempt to contact me. However, based on many of the stereotypes that the university has, I would be reluctant to join.
