"I think that as time goes on they will excel as an online school. However right now, they are mediocre at best."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI will let them know that this is an option. As I did in this survey, I would not give the school outstanding praise, but I would talk to a person about it.
Program Reputation8They are nationally and regionally accredited and what made it attractive is it's affiliation with Georgia Perimeter, which was the school I attended previously. Also, I can obtain my master's in business management if I want to continue my education.
Program Quality5I needed to complete my degree and was looking for a reputable online school that was not known for being a diploma mill. It did not live up to my expectations. It was essentially a diploma mill.
Instruction6It did not prepare me for my career. I was already in the midst of my career and for self satisfaction, I continued and completed my education.
How Difficult6The program was difficult and right now it is not very structured. I think as they develop the online program, it will be much better.
Hands-On vs. BookishFor the online school, it is required that you are more hands-on. They provide you with the necessary tools to help you succeed.
Schedule Flexibility3There are not many online classes offered at this moment. As I explained earlier, I think it will have a great program in the future.
Academic Facilities3The advisor was horrible at returning my phone calls, which made it difficult to make decisions.
Social Life5Once again, because I participated in the online program, I am unsure. I can say that they did not send much information to me. When I attended Georgia Perimeter College, I received many emails about on-campus activities. I did not receive any from Georgia Southwestern State University.
Placement Services5I did not utilize these services.
Alumni Network3I have not received any information on the alumni events. I am sure that as soon as they need money, I will hear from them.

"I liked the school and enjoyed it more while I was there. Now that I'm out, not sure how much it has helped, but it was a great experience."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeIt depends on the person and their background. For anyone who wants to learn a bit more about the theory behind the practice, I would definitely tell them to apply. For those who have a lot of experience, I think it could be more work than it's worth.
Program Reputation8GSU has a good reputation for the flexible MBA program. The school as a whole is well respected, especially in the South.
Program Quality8GSU does a good job of incorporating real-world work into the program. The flexibility is critical when you are working while going to school.
Instruction8Some professors were better than others, but the best ones had worked in the field. I loved the way they were able to bring in actual businesses for us to use in projects.
How Difficult5Sometimes the program was harder to juggle than others, but overall, it was bearable. I don't think it was better or worse than any other school.
Hands-On vs. BookishThere was a good balance between hands-on and book. The book supported the real-world projects we completed.
Schedule Flexibility10GSU is known for their flexibility. Evening and weekend classes make it easier to juggle work schedules.
Academic Facilities8Generally the resources were available when needed. The academic advisors were horrible, but the professors made up for it.
Social Life5There were social events if you wanted to attend them. Most in the MBA program were too busy working to attend most of the social activities.
Placement Services4I think they're getting better but when I was there, not much was available. There were some self-assessments, but there was little help with getting connected to on-campus only recruiting.
Alumni Network3There is not much of an alumni network although they're trying to build one.

Studying Marketing (completion in 1998)

"It was a great experience and gave me a lot of pride when I finished. I could have saved myself the 20 grand in student loans I'm paying back by skipping college and getting to work immediately in sales, though."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noIn the sales field, school isn't that helpful. Your better off going to school to do something in the medical field or to be a teacher.
Program Reputation5I really don't know the answer to that other than to say that it's probably one of the top 50. I know Augusta State University that is part of the University of Georgia system has a good ranking.
Program Quality9There were a lot of internship opportunities in school. I have always taken a lot of pride in the accomplishment of graduating from the university.
Instruction7It's been a while since college, but I would say there was not much preparation for sales. In my experience, the best sales person could have only a GED.
How Difficult6There wasn't a whole lot of homework. I skipped a lot of classes and of course finished with an average GPA.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe were given a lot of case studies in upper level marketing classes. The core curriculum, however, involved a lot of book learning, but the only homework I had in college was in some math and accounting classes.
Schedule Flexibility9I was a full time student with a part time job. I took summer classes once.
Academic Facilities10I was in school when the business building burned down, but they were in the process of building a new, state of the art facility. Needless to say, we were dispersed across campus.
Social Life10I met a lot of great friends from areas all across the state. There was a vibrant nightlife and I had a lot of fun while in college.
Placement Services9I was able to get set up with some great internships in college. I did 4 internships while I was there and attended several workshops.
Alumni Network7I receive all the letters and the invites to the special gatherings. I do not donate and do not get involved.

Kennesaw State University • Kennesaw, GA
Studying Business Management (completion in 2011)

10/3/2011

"It was a fine school. I had some great professors that made learning interesting. The campus was very easy to navigate through. They offered all of the courses I needed and it was very flexible. I was able to work and attend school which was great!"

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesKennesaw is just like any other university. You will get out as much as you put into it. It is a beautiful campus and offers flexibility. They offer many programs and are known for their education, business and nursing schools.
Program Quality7The University is just like any other. I had a handful of professors I am very thankful to have met. I did learn many useful tools pertaining to my major and hope to use them one day. Otherwise, there were many courses I could pass without the aid of a professor. I believe that the tuition is absurd and that students pay for many things which they never use, such as the health plan.
Instruction7The majority of the courses were very good in terms of preparation for the business world. I really enjoyed that all of the business classes offered were tied together in learning. It made it easier during exam time, because many of the concepts you were learning in one class were also being taught in another.
How Difficult5Kennesaw is a great school. I did not find it difficult. It is like any school - if you apply yourself you will succeed. The most important thing is to study and set aside time so that you can succeed in your goals. The majority of professors spend their time preparing you for their exams and they really want to see you excel.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe business school is very book oriented. The majority of the classes are powerpoint presentations of the chapters in the book. I believe that the other schools on campus are more hands on, such as education and nursing.
Schedule Flexibility9Kennesaw State offers classes every day of the week. They offer summer courses, May-mester, December-mester, and online courses. The online courses were the same price of a traditional course when I began in 2005, however, they are now an additional $300 per course.
Academic Facilities5The academic facilities and resources are typical. They offer a library, computer labs, advisors and study groups. Many of the professors work there just one to two times a week and do not have an office, so meeting with them is usually only the five minutes before or after classes. They do have advisors; however, they are more headache than help. They usually do not understand the questions you ask and do not inform you of all of the programs offered in order to graduate in the quickest way possible.
Social Life5I was a non-traditional student. I worked full time and went to school full time. Kennesaw offers great social events for the traditional students. Many times I would see them in the courtyard - there was always something going on. I never had the time to partake in the activities.
Placement Services8The Cole Business School is gaining a great reputation. When I first started attending KSU, it was a very small university that consisted mainly of non traditional students. Since then, it has exploded. Last I heard it was the third largest university in Georgia and the Coles Business School has been looked upon as a respectable program.
Alumni Network5The alumni program is standard. They send periodical emails and mailings. They also encourage you to join the association to aid you with career and networking opportunities.

"As the school continues to develop its only program, it will get better. I think there is a push to make this school better."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesVery good for a working mother or adult. The school does its best for their students.
Program Reputation1It is very new to online. I think the campus program is very established.
Program Quality8I moved up through hard work, so it was not necessary to obtain my degree. I have always put work first.
Instruction6It is an online program and very new. In 2 or 3 years, it will be a great program.
How Difficult3It is a great program for a working adult, specifically a person with kids. The program is very accommodating.
Hands-On vs. BookishExcellent! I think the curriculum is designed to help you understand the classes. Class instruction thus far has been wonderful.
Schedule Flexibility10The online program is great for a working mother. I think the teachers are great in understanding the needs of the students.
Academic Facilities8I have never been on campus, but it seems that their facilities are up to par. I think it is a reputable school in the community.
Social Life8I receive many emails about the on-campus activities, but the distance is too far. I think they keep the students very involved.
Placement Services5The school has an online career service department with access to tests and additional information. I don't think this is a focus for the school.
Alumni Network1Once again, this school is very new to online. I think with more development and in the future, it will be a great program.

"The school gave me the information I needed to further my career. In addition, it gave me the flexibility to complete a degree."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesThis is a great school that will give you what you need to complete your degree. I chose to go with online courses, but they offer the flexibility for both.
Program Reputation9The school has an incredible reputation in the community that I live. Most of the graduates go to work for businesses that are based in the community.
Program Quality10The school's program was well put together. It provided me with the information I needed to continue my career.
Instruction10It was a great curriculum, especially since I was able to attend all of my classes online. I was extremely happy with the engagement of professors and students through the online classes.
How Difficult6I had been in my field of expertise for many years before attending college. It was a great refresher for me, so the classes were not overly difficult.
Hands-On vs. BookishI took my classes all online and it was very book-driven. But we did have discussion boards about what we had learned.
Schedule Flexibility10I took online courses for my degree. Since I travel 90% of the time, this gave me the flexibility I needed to graduate.
Academic Facilities10I never attended a ground class and was only at the campus once to register. But the online support for my classes was great.
Social LifeI never attended anything on the ground campus.
Placement ServicesI am still working for the same employer that I was working for when I was attending school.
Alumni NetworkI do not have much experience with the physical school or meeting any of the alumni.

Mercer University • Macon, GA
Studying Economics/Law (J.D.) (completion in 2003)

3/4/2012

"The price was high, and there's no way around that. However, I believe I left with the practical tools to make a career for myself."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesThe alumni network is tight-knit and very helpful. The curriculum is focused on practical knowledge and career opportunities. I think a lot of my colleagues would be better at what they do if they had gone to the school I did.
Program Reputation5Unfortunately, Mercer's business program does not have a great reputation. The program has not been around for that long, and it is not attached to an Ivy League university. However, the alumni out in the business world are an excellent advertisement for the school.
Program Quality7I found my professors to be very practical in their approach, which is certainly a positive. While the school's name recognition and reputation could be better and the price (like most everywhere else in higher education) was very high, the school prepared me to do the job that I hold today.
Instruction8My professors emphasized practical learning opportunities. The externship programs were outstanding. The tuition was astronomical and the loans will be with me for eternity, but the quality of instruction was excellent.
How Difficult6I did not find the program of study that difficult. I studied a good bit more than many of my fellow students, but found that with good reading comprehension skills (and a willingness to ask questions), the program was not that difficult.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe curriculum was very practical. However, there was also a reasonable amount of technical analysis and focus on the major texts and theories of the program.
Schedule Flexibility8I took courses in the early mornings, evenings and during lunch hours. As a traditional student, this was not imperative for me. However, when I took an externship as a junior and senior, it was incredibly helpful. I even took two courses of individual study designed solely for me. You just cannot do that at every school.
Academic Facilities7At the time that I attended, the facilities were a bit outdated. However, since then, the university has made a major investment in facility upgrades, especially computing resources.
Social Life7Mercer is not quite a commuter school, but it's also not far from it. There was not a football program when I attended, which I believe would have kept more students on campus. One will begin play in 2013, however, which should help with that. There are a large number and variety of student organizations for every interest, and there is a moderately sized Greek system. Also, the city of Macon itself has a good bit to do.
Placement Services8The staff in career services is incredibly helpful. They take it as a personal mission to help students. If I had a criticism, it would be the high turnover rate, which I believe prevents career services from building lasting relationships with employers.
Alumni Network6The network of alumni is excellent within the state of Georgia and throughout the Southeast. Alumni status opens some doors with fellow alums. However, the lack of a widespread national alumni population is discouraging.

Georgia Perimeter College • Clarkston, GA
Studying Engineering (completion in 2011)

3/18/2012

"The cost was right up my alley, extremely affordable. The instructors were down to earth and very helpful."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesYes, because it's a great way to start, especially if you have had a few years off from school. The instructors are extremely patient and take their time teaching everything that is important.
Program Reputation10Well my school's reputation is pretty good here in Georgia. It is the third largest school in Georgia behind two 4 year universities. GPC's reputation for being affordable is awesome.
Program Quality10I loved GPC because it is a very affordable school. I received my associates degree. Plus, all of my credits are going to transfer to my bachelors degree.
Instruction10The instructors at Georgia Perimeter College go above and beyond to make sure they teach everything that will be needed once I transfer to my four year school university. They are better and more understanding than most teachers, period.
How Difficult8While challenging us to learn at the four year university level, the instructor always make sure every lesson is fully explained and understood. They even offer free tutoring.
Hands-On vs. BookishBecause my major is engineering, I would say it's definitely a mix of both. Most of our assignments were text based, but we actually had to make or perform some sort task from the textbook.
Schedule Flexibility10GPC is the MOST flexible school in GA. They offer 5 different campuses around the Atlanta area. Classes on campus start at around 8 am at the earliest and they end at 10:30 pm. There are 7 days of the week to choose from. PLUS, they offer online classes so that students like myself have the option to take all or half of their classes online, whichever way works for the students.
Academic Facilities10To be a 2 year school, I felt the tools and labs were very up to date with technology. Tutors and most faculty did not leave until 10 pm. The instructors have office hours during which the students can come by and seek help or get advice on just about anything, depending on the instructor.
Social Life6Well, because it's a two year school, we didn't have a football team. It did have a basketball and soccer team, which both were surprising good. My social experience was great seeing that I'm 28 and most the my classmates were 18 and up.
Placement ServicesI can't really rate this for the simple fact that I have not used the career services and I was not planning to stop after my 2 year degree because I still have 2 years to go to complete my 4 year degree.
Alumni Network5Most of the Alumni eventually come back to GPC to work full time as either an instructor or assistant once they have completed their four year school. Others stick around and take tutoring jobs that are sponsored by the school.

University Of West Georgia • Carrollton, GA
Studying History (completion in 2011)

3/25/2012

"Great faculty. Lame students."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noI say no merely because my career does not line up with my education.
Program Reputation10It is one of the best programs of its kind in the nation.
Program Quality9My academic advisor was the state scholar and did her part to prepare me for a museum job.
Instruction9See above comment.
How Difficult8There was a lot of reading and writing, but the workload was not unreasonable.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe public history program had a good mix of great courses and opportunities to get real, hands-on experience.
Schedule Flexibility10There are plenty of options for those who work during the day or commute.
Academic Facilities7The school is slowly adding new buildings and amenities.
Social Life2I did not fit in, as the school was not in an urban environment.
Placement Services4I do not have a job in my chosen field, so it is hard for me to give this one a good rating.
Alumni Network5The network is average, though I admit I could do more to take part in alumni activities.

Kennesaw State University • Kennesaw, GA
Studying Business Management (completion in 2005)

4/5/2012

"I was very satisfied with my school. I learned a lot about team environments, management styles and conflict resolution. I felt that most of my professors did go out of their way to learn about their students."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesI would recommend my school to others pursuing my career. The biggest reason would be due to the experience of the professors. The second, biggest reason would be for the availability of classes for both traditional and non-traditional students.
Program Reputation10My school's current reputation is extremely good. Kennesaw State University added a Doctorate Program shortly after I graduated. The Business school is also named for Michael Coles.
Program Quality10Kennesaw State University has a great Business Program. I constantly use the computer, management and conflict resolution skills I learned while a student.
Instruction10The instruction at Kennesaw State University was extremely good for several reasons. One of the top reasons for this is that most of the professors had experience running their own businesses or working in executive roles. Their real life knowledge was an invaluable tool in helping me learn about the business world.
How Difficult6The difficulty of my program of study was above average. All of the classes required an ability to complete projects. Most of the classes also required an ability work as part of a team.
Hands-On vs. BookishThe business program was very hands on. All classes had some type of project. Most of these projects were team oriented and required presentation during the semester.
Schedule Flexibility10My school's class schedule flexibility was very good. They offered day, night and weekend classes.
Academic Facilities10My school's academic facilities and resources were extremely good. The computer lab was quite helpful and students were given free access to programs such as LexisNexis.
Social Life4My social experience at Kennesaw State University was below average. However, this was due to my status as a non-traditional student that worked during the day. I worked during the day and attended school at night and on weekends. This left little time for social activities of any kind.
Placement Services9My school's job placement and career services assistance is good. I was never able to be placed on a job through their job boards. However, when I was laid off a few years ago, their counselors were very helpful.
Alumni Network5The school's alumni network and support is average. I feel that I mainly hear from them when they are requesting donations.
