Would Recommend?yesI've seen many people get degrees that proved nearly useless once school ended. I've had no difficulties finding work, and I truly feel like my degree and skills are valued by employers.
Program Reputation8Not much has changed in the last year and a half. The college maintains a strong reputation and only the best can qualify to participate.
Program Quality7The Shidler College of Business at UH is highly renowned. Though I feel like many were able to slip through without truly absorbing the skills they need, I think my education put me in a good position to succeed.
Instruction7Like any institution, there are some professors that are more engaging and inspiring, and others that go through the motions, collect a paycheck and go home. I was very lucky to have several teachers that were truly passionate about what they do, and took interest in the future success of their students.
How Difficult8A couple classes were relatively easy, but the vast majority were very difficult. Missing class and slacking off was never an option, as most classes had submitted assignments weekly and required full student participation in lectures and activities.
Hands-On vs. BookishIn many of our programs, the textbooks were hardly used and mostly for secondary reinforcement of information. Many classes didn't even have texts. The in-class, hands-on activities were the main source of learning.
Schedule Flexibility4I had severe difficulty scheduling all the classes I needed to take. I ended up delaying my graduation, because some classes I needed were only offered fall or spring, and others would be scheduled simultaneously, meaning I could take one or the other, but not both in a particular semester.
Academic Facilities8Considering the rest of the university, Shidler had excellent facilities. Most of the college was fully remodeled and modernized in the two years that I spent there.
Social Life6As a member of a BCS Buster football team, I have to give athletics an A+. However, the social scene was hindered by a bunch of RoboCop administrators and student housing resident managers.
Placement Services5Though there is a career services office, I don't feel like there is much encouragement to use it. The department chair showed up to my class one time, performed a rehearsed little speech and I never saw him again.
Alumni Network6Many alumni made an effort to reach out and offer advice to students. However, the vast majority don't feel any deep connection to the program and seem to cut ties shortly after graduating.
