"I got everything I wanted out of IUPUI. I am the perfect example of the kind of student that benefits from a college like this."

| Would Recommend? | yes | Again, even though I did not get a degree in sales, my journalism degree has helped me immensely in the industry. It not only gave me the effective tools of communication, but it also gave me a background in public relations and promotion that is the basis for all sales careers. |
| Program Quality | 8 | Although I did not attend school for sales directly, my journalism degree gave me two key skills that I utilize on a day-to-day basis: the ability to write any kind of document and the ability to communicate effectively. |
| Instruction | More than 5 years ago | |
| How Difficult | 6 | |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Due to the nature of the school, many of my professors were industry professionals. Because they taught part-time and worked in their field full-time, we got more hands-on instruction than book-based instruction. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | This is one of IUPUI's strengths. There were a variety of class schedule options for day students AND there were night classes. Schedule flexibility was amazing. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | Academically, IUPUI was superior at the time I attended. The library and computer labs were state-of-the-art, and possibly ahead of other schools in the area. |
| Social Life | 4 | The university I attended does not cater to young people looking for a traditional college social experience. It is a school that caters to commuting students and those that are working. However, I was involved with a few organizations and made many friends. |
| Placement Services | 9 | There was a student newspaper and an active internship support program. The journalism department was very helpful in posting jobs and helping students obtain those jobs. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | IUPUI is known as a commuter school, so social opportunities on the campus were -- and still are -- limited. I think the alumni program reflects this. |

"I enjoyed my experience while I was there. I was able to work and do school work on my own time. The degree is nationally recognized and Indiana University is a very good school with a very big alumni base."

| Would Recommend? | yes | People who are looking for a quality education in my city will love the programs offered by IPFW. There are also many connections within the community that offer great opportunities to find a job once you have completed your education. IPFW is located in the second largest city in Indiana and thus provides opportunities that universities in smaller cities cannot. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | Indiana School of Business is one of the top business schools in the country. The program is nationally recognized. |
| Program Quality | 10 | I feel I got a quality education from a recognized university. I was able to stay close to home and save money. |
| Instruction | More than 5 years ago | I graduated over 5 years ago. I wish I could help with this question! |
| How Difficult | 6 | It wasn't too difficult overall, it but was also challenging at times. I was able to juggle work and school with few problems. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Some classes focus on book work while other classes are more focused on practice. These require projects and/or internships. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | I never had a problem finding classes that fit my schedule. As stated earlier I was able to juggle work and school throughout my post-secondary education. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | The school had great facilities and excellent professors. There are multiple computer labs with around-the-clock access. There is also a large library and an expanded online database of countless resources. |
| Social Life | 4 | It is primarily a commuter university. Although over the past 5 years the campus has grown and is now division 1 in athletics, the school spirit is still pretty low. |
| Placement Services | 8 | I have not heard anything bad about the program, but I have also not had much experience with them as I was working at my current company while I was getting my degree. |
| Alumni Network | 10 | I belong to the Alumni Association and get frequent updates and opportunities to meet fellow alumni. They also provide opportunities for alumni that are currently not working. |

Studying English (completion in 2010)

"I really liked Purdue. There were a few things I might change, but I think everyone finds that about their school. The education is great, the university is huge, and I always felt welcome there."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

| Would Recommend? | maybe | If you are really interested in elite types of English learning, maybe Purdue isn't for you. The program is strong, but not as renowned as other programs are. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | Purdue is a school more known for their engineering and agricultural studies. Even though I found the English program to be wonderful, I know many would disagree and believe other schools to be better. |
| Program Quality | 10 | I loved the English department at Purdue. We had some of the best teachers, and many of them are published authors. |
| Instruction | 9 | The teachers were so good at what they did, and I felt inspired around them. The only complaint I ever had was that unless you were a fairly decent writer, they were hard on the grading. |
| How Difficult | 10 | For me, the program was easy because I have always liked writing and reading. However, the program was challenging because the work load was HEAVY. There was lots of reading and many papers were due at the same time. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | In my particular major, most of the work was hands on, because the classes were smaller. When I was in other courses, though, mainly lecture halls, the study was mainly done through book learning and memorizing. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | When I first started at Purdue, the schedules were made for us, with little flexibility. However, by my junior year, they had created a system where we picked our own classes and times, which gave great flexibility. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | Purdue has a lot of libraries and study areas with media access and labs. However, I found them to just be average --nothing out of the ordinary. |
| Social Life | 10 | We had a large Greek life at Purdue, and football season was always a huge thing. Social activities are an important thing at Purdue, and it was hard not to get involved in the enthusiasm. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I know there were resources available, but my counselor never really actively tried to help me. I feel that this might be the case at other large colleges, too, so I give it an average rating. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I can't give much insight into this as I am not highly involved with the alumni or support network. From things I receive in the mail, I assume it's average/decent. |

Studying Business Administration (completion in 2003)

"This was a perfect solution to earning my degree and working in a high profile sales position. IU did not require an internship that would have pulled me away from work (like Syracuse University does).."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | Absolutely. IU could work with so many people. Single parents, career minded individuals that travel, and families that are just too busy to attend a formal classroom. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | At the time, it was the a 5 on-line programs for Business Administration. Now there are so many on-line schools, and I am not sure how they compete. My experience was excellent. |
| Program Quality | 9 | IU was an excellent school for a Business Administration degree. Little lab work was needed and it was very easy to participate w/ other in the program for joint projects. |
| Instruction | 10 | Excellent. IU always had an instructor available when I needed them. I would use this offering about twice during a semester and valued the interaction. |
| How Difficult | 5 | It was not a difficult program. I was an older student and learning came quite easily for me. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | My instructors were wonderful to allow me to get hands-on experience rather than repeating information learned in a text book. This was my preference in applying real life experiences vs someone else's ideas. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | With an on-line program I did not have to worry about a class being full. I could pretty much take the courses as long as they were in the right order. |
| Academic Facilities | 6 | Since I was on-line I did not have a formal library, but they would recommend sister libraries, ie, the ones at Davidson College or CPCC, as options for my research. Exams were taken at an approved college w/ monitors. |
| Social Life | 9 | IU is always sending information on alumni offerings. I have never participated in any social activities nor have I been to an IU campus. This would not be applicable for me. |
| Placement Services | 8 | At the time, they had a great placement program. I did not take advantage of it since I was employed at the same time. It did increase my ability to receive promotions instead of having just an AAS Degree. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | IU has quite a few outreach programs what would be beneficial to students that attended in a classroom. Being remote, this was not as appealing to me as I did not have the connection w/ the campus, instructors, or classmates. |

"I had a great time while I was there. I got a great job after. That's the point, right?"
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

| Would Recommend? | maybe | There are actual classes you can take to become an insurance agent to get your license. It is only a 200 hour class so there is no need to go for a full 4 years. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | The school has an overall great reputation. The business school has a fantastic reputation. Students come from all over the world. |
| Program Quality | 8 | It was a great school. I didn't really like communication and culture, but the business school was really hard to get into. I liked the school better than I liked the classes. |
| Instruction | 5 | I learned better communication skills, but that was mostly from being away at college, not from taking classes. I learned nothing about the job I got after college. Honestly, I think that college is a scam. What is wrong with just training for 2 weeks for your job instead of going to school for 4 years? |
| How Difficult | 6 | It would have been a lot easier had I paid attention in class or done any of the readings. There was a lot of reading, way too much to keep up with, so I never did it. That makes class a little more difficult. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Very book learning, which I do not prefer. There are a lot of slides and sitting in your seat taking down notes. We did have group activities in which we had to present something to the class. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | Normally you only have to have Friday classes your first year. There were a lot of evening classes that I took advantage of. I always took summer classes so I didn't have to take as many classes over the year. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | There is a huge library and plenty of computers all over campus. They are constantly expanding the campus. My department got a brand new building. |
| Social Life | 10 | It used to be the top party school, but I'm sure it's still pretty high up there. There were great tailgates and attendance for the basketball games even though the teams were awful and hardly ever won. |
| Placement Services | 5 | The business school has great assistance, although it's not too helpful at the moment since there are no jobs. The communications department had no career services that I know of. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | Not really sure. I don't live in the state or have anything to do with the school anymore. I am sure it is great, though. |

"While the application of lessons was not great, I knew this going in so that was of no consequence to me. My only goal was to get a degree. I also enjoyed several of the classes, so overall I did enjoy the experience."

| Would Recommend? | yes | It's a local university that carries a degree, which is an important tool in today's world. The flexibility in classes makes this school perfect for the working person. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | IUSB is on the border between a community college and a small university. They can't recruit top professors to teach, but they do find local talented people to teach classes. |
| Program Quality | 5 | The education was alright, nothing spectacular. The program gave me the basics for my field, but application of these basics was lacking. |
| Instruction | 4 | Career preparation was poor. The classes did not teach application of the lessons. I didn't learn much from the program but I also had a strong understanding before beginning. |
| How Difficult | 5 | I found the work load easy and not challenging, often requiring under an hour to finish. Most of my classmates said they found the work load to be difficult. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | A few classes were very book-oriented. For the most part, the classes were hands-on, teaching more through interaction between professor and students. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | The flexibility in classes was excellent. They go above and beyond to make sure classes are available at convenient hours for all students, whether day, night, or weekend. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | Availability of professors and tutors was excellent. Computer resources were plentiful as were the online resources. The library was the only down side, which is to be expected at a small university. |
| Social Life | 4 | There was some school spirit when it came to the basketball team. With everything else there was very little involvement of any sort. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I can not attest to this because I had a job before graduating and did not use any of these services. |
| Alumni Network | 1 | Alumni were barely ever present or heard from at all. I attended many functions and events and I had only met two previous alumni at those events. |

Studying Philosophy, Political Science, And Sociology (Triple Major) (completion in 2009)

• 3/5/2012
"I love IU. I would recommend anyone who does not qualify to get into a Tier 1 undergraduate school (think top 10 schools for the majors you are interested in) go to Indiana University. I got a full college experience and I'm still an active alum today."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | I would suggest you know that you want to go into management before you start at your university. I would suggest a degree in business and potentially an MBA for those who want to start their careers in management a step above where I started. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | Other than sociology, Indiana University was not very well known for my majors. Philosophy is reputable, but not widely. |
| Program Quality | 8 | Indiana University has a well-respected sociology program, and I was able to study under some very well-known professors. IU does not have a very well-known political science program and I would rate it at about average. The philosophy department is not very big at Indiana University, with only about 25 students graduating with a degree in philosophy a year. From what I have heard, the philosophy department is above average, but not outstanding. |
| Instruction | 5 | There was very little career preparation from my majors (unless you count when I was definitely going to law school and there were always opportunities in my political science classes for preparation for the LSAT, etc.). I feel I learned a great deal while I was studying at Indiana University; however, much of what I learned isn't really relevant to everyday life. The skills I learned in all three majors have been helpful and relevant in everyday life. |
| How Difficult | 8 | Being that I decided to try to obtain three majors, I would say the difficulty of my overall program was rather high. I had to take all the normal requirements for the schools that my majors were housed under, as well as three different "weed out" courses for each major. Then, there was the final "mini thesis" for each major. I would say it wasn't extremely difficult, but it was definitely a challenge. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I cannot think of many examples where we did not learn directly out of the book, except my stress management class. We used hands-on techniques in that class to learn how to breathe, etc. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | I was able to balance a 40-hour workweek along with 12-15 credit hours of school every semester. I was able to pile all my classes into two days a week so I could work the other 5. I graduated with three majors while maintaining a full-time job. I only took 3 summer courses. Class schedules were extremely flexible. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | There were advisers and tutors available for each major. There were not separate libraries for each area of study. |
| Social Life | 5 | I went to as many football games as I could fit in either before or after working my job. I was also in a sorority, which helped me attend many parties, organized social events, and philanthropies. |
| Placement Services | 5 | There is a career services center on campus, but you would only see business students go in and out of the building. It was never once recommended to me to go there. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | Indiana University has a career portal for alumni to search for jobs. Other than that, there really isn't any alumni support. |

| Would Recommend? | no | They are not professional. They also do not attempt to help the students when they are in need. |
| Program Reputation | 4 | I have never heard anything good about this school since I have been there. I have heard more positive things about hospital paramedic programs. |
| Program Quality | 5 | I was not happy with Vincennes at all. They never had things in order when it came to classes. The teachers were unprofessional. |
| Instruction | 3 | We would wait months to get graded papers back and then be expected to redo them within a day or two. Teachers rarely answered any emails you sent them. |
| How Difficult | 5 | The standard math and english classes were easy. The paramedic science was hard. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I never did one clinical. It made it very hard to get out and do these things in real life. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 4 | Classes were not too bad. Teachers didn't care if you were even there as long as work assignments were completed. |
| Academic Facilities | I never used the facilities. I would use my own resources. | |
| Social Life | I am not a social person. I do not tend to socialize a lot. | |
| Placement Services | 1 | They do not assist you in getting placed into the work force. They were unfamiliar with what I needed to do in my specific field. |
| Alumni Network | I have no idea what my school's Alumni are doing. I do not receive any information from them. |

| Would Recommend? | yes | I had a great experience. The faculty were very engaging. |
| Program Reputation | 6 | It is the oldest MSW program. It offers many different social work tracks. |
| Program Quality | 8 | My classes were engaging. I learned a great deal from my classmates. |
| Instruction | 7 | The skills I learned helped me understand how to deal with people. I also learned how to handle situations involving conflict. |
| How Difficult | 5 | Some classes were challenging, but I enjoyed them so they did not seem to be difficult. My professors were all working in the field so they had practical knowledge. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | The program had a good combination of both hands on and book learning. I was engaged in both learning opportunities. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | I was able to take weekend and night classes. I completed my masters degree while working full time. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | I rarely used the school's resources. I was only on campus for classes. |
| Social Life | 4 | I commuted to campus. I did not engage in school activities as I was working full time. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I did not have support from the school in job placement. I also did not have any difficulty finding a job. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | I do not follow the alumni network. I have not been involved up to this point. |
