"I learned a great amount in and outside of the classroom. I made great friends, even amongst the professors. The quality of the material I was taught was outstanding. My world view was definitely broadened. Last of all, I came out of college debt free!"

| Would Recommend? | yes | I feel as though my degree, and most degrees from my school, taught me how to be flexible in any job that I might have. Although there may be other programs out there perhaps better suited to support me in my current position, I feel as though my choice more than adequately prepared me excelling at what I am currently doing. |
| Program Reputation | 8 | Unfortunately my major is no longer available at my alma mater. However, for those who did end up getting the same degree I received from this institution, they have gone on to do some great things. |
| Program Quality | 9 | I loved the program I was enrolled in. It was extremely well rounded! However, my love of what I studied didn't end up relating to many of the jobs that I ended up pursuing afterwards. |
| Instruction | 10 | |
| How Difficult | 9 | The work load of my program was very high. To obtain a degree in my program I needed to complete a final thesis. This thesis was expected to be on the same level as one from a Master's Degree program. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I believe there was a good balance between the two. For almost all classes there was a mixture of time spent in class and in academic study along with a chance for very concrete, real-life applications. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | They had multiple options for their classes including evening, weekend, summer and online courses. In addition, they had quite a few internships available for course credit. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | At the time I was a student the internet wasn't used as widely as it is today. It was difficult finding much of the material I needed for my research needs. Availability and accessibility of academic advisors, laboratories and class room space was more than adequate. |
| Social Life | 8 | I was never at a loss for engaging social experiences. These included special speakers, plays and art exhibitions, club events, and events connecting us with the outside local community. |
| Placement Services | 5 | There really wasn't much guidance in terms of job placement for when I finished my degree. I think it was assumed I would provide a couple of years of volunteer service and seek work overseas or with the school-affiliated church. |
| Alumni Network | 3 | I am rarely contacted by by school's alumni program. I attended a rather small religious school and have continued to find it to be rather cliquish. |

| Would Recommend? | yes | KState has a great reputation for marketing and sales management. I don't see how anyone could not love going there. |
| Program Reputation | 7 | Kansas State has a good reputation for marketing. I choose Kansas State because of its reputation. |
| Program Quality | 9 | I enjoyed my college. The classes were fantastic and the professors were great. |
| How Difficult | 5 | My program was simple and basic. There was not too much work or stress. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I feel like they had a perfect mix of hands-on and book learning. I personally like book learning, but the hands-on work was valuable. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | Flexibility was a great feature. I worked a lot and needed a VERY flexible schedule, and they really did a good job of helping to make this happen. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | The library was great and had tons of useful resources. The classrooms were large and were not over crowded. |
| Social Life | 7 | School parties were always fun. There was a great deal of school sprit. |
| Placement Services | 8 | The job placement services are great. I no longer work at the job I got out of school, but I did enjoy it. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | It's average. I like it. |

| Would Recommend? | yes | I would recommend it to anyone. The school worked with me and made me work for my degree, and prepared me for my career. |
| Program Reputation | 8 | They are well known for business schooling. They are working toward building an even better reputation, though. |
| Program Quality | 8 | It was a great school. A little difficult towards the end, but well worth it. |
| Instruction | 9 | The teachers and the material they taught were great. |
| How Difficult | 5 | It really was not that hard. It went by really fast. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Most of the classes were straight out of the book. It was boring at times. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 3 | Most of the classes only were offered at one time and they were all on campus. It was really inconvenient. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | They had plenty of resources to help me through the educational process. Everybody was willing to work with me. |
| Social Life | 10 | There were a lot of multicultural students there, which was a great experience. Plus, everyone was very friendly. |
| Placement Services | 4 | They tried to help me, but in the end I got the job by myself. |
| Alumni Network | 7 | They helped me get a job afterwards. |

| Would Recommend? | yes | Absolutely! A top notch education at a university that greatly cares for its students' success. The town also supports its students and provides jobs and lots of additional housing. The whole place has a feel that makes you want to go back and visit long after you graduate. |
| Program Reputation | 9 | I think it is one of the top schools in the midwest. It recently received national attention because of the new bioscience center it is building in Olathe, KS. |
| Program Quality | 10 | K-State provides a great environment for learning because it is set in a small college town which works with the college to give real life opportunities to students. The teachers have corporate experience which they easily translate to the classroom, |
| Instruction | 10 | Teachers really care about student success. You aren't just a number. The various colleges within the university have great counselors to answer questions and guide students. |
| How Difficult | 7 | Some classes were difficult, but they forced you to really learn the material. The workload was manageable but you have to make sure you were good with time management. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I felt like my classes had a good mix of both, but if I needed more than just a book, I could always go to the professor. The lab classes were great and not so large so that you felt overwhelmed. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | I was always able to get classes to meet my schedule. Now with on-line classes it should be even easier for students. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | The football program has brought in a great deal of money as has the alumni. The campus is a great mix of old historical buildings and new modern buildings. |
| Social Life | 10 | From dorm events to sporting events, this university has it all. The community also has a fun, energetic feel to it. Not only does it get involved with the school, it also has great events of its own, such as golf tournaments, various fun runs, and parades. There is something for everyone. |
| Placement Services | 7 | I didn't really use them so I can't say much. I would have to believe they are at least average. |
| Alumni Network | 10 | I'm not really involved with the alumni but know several people who are and they are always going to events. We live in Kansas City and K-State has been great about getting their alumni events here in the metro. They are very proactive. |

"I am considering going back to study another field. It was a great experience for me."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | I loved my experience at this school and would without a doubt recommend it to anyone. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | The reputation for this field is quite good. It is in high demand in my area. |
| Program Quality | 10 | I had an amazing time with this faculty. They gave me all the resources I needed to excel in my classes. |
| Instruction | 10 | |
| How Difficult | 5 | For myself it was not very difficult. I chose accounting because it is what I was already good at. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | In the field I studied it was more book oriented. There was not much hands on work to it. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 10 | They provide many options for class scheduling. I had switched from weekdays to weekend classes as well as day to evening classes on several occasions |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | They have plenty of resources to fit the needs of students. |
| Social Life | 10 | Being a small community, the social experience was great. They held many activities. |
| Placement Services | 5 | Job placement is good if you are in a situation of relocating. They do not have much in terms of local work. I would be much more successful in this field if I was able to relocate. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | It's simply average. |

Studying Management (completion in 2007)

"Overall, I received my degree and classes fit nicely into my schedule. I'm sure I could have learned more but I am satisfied with my experience."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | I would recommend the program to those wanting to gain a degree online or on campus in Wichita. However, I would not recommend an offsite program due to instruction, advisor, and technology issues. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | It depends on the location of the program. On campus programs receive high ratings. However, off campus programs are sometimes not rated as highly, due to instructor and technology issues. |
| Program Quality | 5 | The program was too short and I believe it would have been better if it were stretched over a longer period of time. |
| Instruction | 4 | Many of the professors were not adequate teachers. Many were not prepared and did not know the material. |
| How Difficult | 5 | I found it to be pretty easy but I do well in business programs. I found the thesis to be challenging at first because I had never written one but once I got about half way through it was not too bad. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Because I was taking a Master's level class it was more book learning than hands on. I know in the bachelor's level classes they do more of a mix (I know this because I taught some classes at the bachelor's level). | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | They are pretty flexible. They offer day, evening, weekend, and online studies. I took Saturday classes as they easily fit into my schedule. |
| Academic Facilities | 8 | The library was excellent. The librarians were very helpful and there was a large online database to use for research. I mostly used the online databases for my studies. |
| Social Life | 8 | They have many events and gatherings for students on campus. However, I did not attend many because I drove in from Oklahoma (4 hour drive). The football games were very popular. |
| Placement Services | 1 | They do not really have a job placement service. However, they do have a job fair each year, inviting local businesses into the student union. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | Friends has a good alumni office that contacts students often. I have received many mailings since graduation. |

Studying English (completion in 2009)

• 11/28/2011
"My school had a great historic atmosphere and amazing professors. Even though it wasn't a big school, the students were diverse and interesting. The classes were interesting and exciting and encouraged learning. It was the best four years of my life!"
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | The English department of my school ensures that you leave with a thorough and vast knowledge of the field. When you graduate you feel confident in that knowledge. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | My university is known for its tough academic standards. The English department professors were especially tough in their academic demands and were known for having a rigorous curriculum. |
| Program Quality | 10 | My professors were amazing. They had advanced and thorough knowledge of the field and were creative in their teaching methods. There was never a moment where I wasn't learning something. |
| Instruction | 8 | I learned a lot, and the knowledge covered a broad range of the topic. But, I feel that I could have been better prepared for careers in the field of study. |
| How Difficult | 10 | The workload was high, especially in the last four semesters. All of the classes were academically challenging, especially the classes that were based more on theory. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | When studying English, specifically literature, there is only so much hands-on learning that can be done. However, the English classes that did not revolve around literature, such as grammar and media ethics and law, had quite a bit of hands-on experience that really enhanced the academics of the classroom. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 7 | For being small, my university offered a surprising amount of schedule flexibility. However, there were still not enough varied choices. Sometimes it was a struggle to make a schedule that worked 100 percent. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | My school had an amazing library and media center. There was tons of classroom space and many tutors and study groups to choose from. The professors were always and easily available and willing to help. The only aspect that my school lacked was computer resources. My school did not have enough money to spend so the technologies suffered most. There was also quite a lack in people who were technologically informed, as most of the faculty consisted of older nuns who never used a majority of available technology. |
| Social Life | 3 | While my social experience was fairly good, there was little school spirit. The university focused on athletics and boosting school spirit, but my school just did not have the number of students it takes to have great spirit and athletics. Almost all the organized social event s such as dances and game nights mostly failed. |
| Placement Services | 3 | Being relatively small, my university had fewer resources and thus the career development center suffered. They were not organized and did not provide too many useful job placement tools. |
| Alumni Network | 5 | My university was fairly small, and as a result the alumni network and support was weak. Not enough alumni were involved with the university. |
University Of Kansas • Lawrence, KS
Studying Political Science (completion in 2006)

• 1/15/2012
"I really enjoyed The University of Kansas. I felt that I got a good education at a great value."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | I would recommend it to others, but I would just tell them that they shouldn't pick political science. I wish I had gotten a degree in something more useful, like business. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | I'm not sure where US News & World Report would rank it. It wasn't known for that. |
| Program Quality | 7 | The political science program was good. I learned a lot. The school isn't renowned for its poli sci program. |
| Instruction | 4 | I think that a degree in business would have better suited me for my career choice. Political science does not deal with running a store. |
| How Difficult | 8 | There was a bunch of reading, and that could get pretty intense. But there wasn't a bunch of busywork. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | It was a good mix. We would have readings that we would have to do, but most classes also had a discussion period that you had to attend, which was smaller in size and more hands on than the lecture. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 8 | I know they have a good range of class offerings. They have nights and weekends, and for some gen ed classes, they offer online classes. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | We had our own political science library. They had multiple computer labs on campus, so you could always use a computer. |
| Social Life | 10 | The social experience was great. They have all kinds of clubs and organizations. There is a big Greek life presence there. The university would also try to have social functions to let you meet people. |
| Placement Services | I didn't use the career services. None of my friends did either. | |
| Alumni Network | 5 | It's average. I didn't have any alumni support to get my job. |

"I got out of my education what I intended. Wouldn't trade it for anything else."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | yes | There are options for everyone, no matter what their interests are. Getting an undergraduate sales/marketing degree probably would have helped me out now, but even though I was in education, I was able to receive a master's degree to balance that knowledge out. |
| Program Reputation | 10 | Kansas State University is nationally known and accredited. It is a Division I school, excelling in multiple degrees and serving over 22,000 students each semester. I extremely enjoyed my time at K-State and would recommend it to any high school seniors looking for college locations. Also, K-State is striving to become a top-50 research institution by the year 2025. |
| Program Quality | 8 | My training initially was for becoming a teacher. I then switched over and received my master's degree, so I could go into either sales or event management. I gained great knowledge and experience in my program relating to this field and just hope I can soon contribute that experience towards the sports industry. |
| Instruction | 6 | I feel like I have more knowledge of how sales and marketing work in the sports industry, as that is where I gained all my experience in college. At my current job, the training was basic, video based, and little hands-on teaching was done. I feel like I know the underlying expectations, but to excel at my current job, I feel I do not have the training to do so. |
| How Difficult | 9 | I feel like my undergraduate and master's programs were equally challenging; not necessarily from a difficulty aspect, but from a time commitment aspect. There were multiple times when I had to read 100+ pages of a textbook, write a 1000-word response paper and then study for an exam, all in a weekly routine. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | My experience was very hands on. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | Usually pretty fair in selection. Most classes are offered each semester, including summers and evening/morning times. The only time this changed was when you were enrolling in your core degree classes. |
| Academic Facilities | 10 | Great resources around the university. Hale Library is the largest library I have ever been in, and the staff was very helpful. |
| Social Life | 10 | Kansas State was a very friendly community. All staff, students, and residents in Manhattan go out of their way to welcome people, and there was always something to do, whether that be school, sports, shopping, or social activities. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I feel like my advisor could have done more for me to get me in contact with the areas I was interested in. Getting involved in sports is difficult, as it is often not what you know, but who you know, so working currently as a sales manager through an internet marketing company is a place to start. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | I feel like the relationships I made at Kansas State led me to gain my master's degree and receive a graduate assistantship. However, with the economic decline in our nation and the demand for jobs at a record high, finding a perfect job fit is extremely difficult. I feel like my references will be the deciding factor in landing my dream job in sports. |
