"I had a ton of fun at Louisville. I definitely recommend it. It's great sports school and has great professors."

Would Recommend?yesHad a very solid program. Set me up great for my future.
Program Reputation8I am still a donor. I go back quite often to visit my professors.
Program Quality7It was solid with plenty of hands on learning. I really enjoyed it.
Instruction8Very well. I think I could have jumped right into Philosophy right after I graduated.
How Difficult10
Hands-On vs. BookishIt was more hands on then book learning. We used books as a secondary resources.
Schedule Flexibility4If wasn't very flexible. We didn't have a lot of class times to chose from.
Academic Facilities10There were GREAT facilities. We had so many libraries, teachers stayed after every day after class, and there were plenty of tutors.
Social Life10EVERYONE LOVED THE BASKETBALL TEAM. It was nearly impossible to find seats in the student section. Louisville students love their sports. There was also plenty of partying going on.
Placement Services9Very good. Their career service assistance helped me a lot.
Alumni Network2It is poor. There is not a very good network.

Sullivan University • Louisville, KY
Studying Business Marketing (completion in 2007)

"I am happy with the education I received. I wouldn't have gone another way in my choice of where to go to school."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

Would Recommend?yesThey actually teach you real skills. They are there to help you and answer questions, they even know your name! Then once you do graduate, they help you find a career. What more could you ask for?
Program Reputation7Sullivan was usually known as a culinary school, but their business school is starting to pick up a good reputation as students venture out into the work force. People are starting to notice.
Program Quality8My school had small class sizes and a very hands on staff who have actually worked in the field. It was nice to have someone teaching you that actually had real world experience.
Instruction8Sullivan had great resources to educate you on the real world and what to expect. They keep it simple and don't sugar coat it, which is nice because in the business world it can be rough.
How Difficult8There were plenty of all nighters pulled and tough projects, but the teachers were always there to explain and help. It could be tough at times, but there were people to help.
Hands-On vs. BookishIt was a nice balance between the two. Depending on the class and the teacher it would vary.
Schedule Flexibility8Sullivan offered weekend, evening, summer, and online course options. It was wonderful knowing that if I wanted too I could take a class at home online.
Academic Facilities10For a small school it had large classroom and a large staff. They devote Fridays as an optional day where all staff has to come in and be available if students have questions or need help.
Social Life3Sullivan is too small for sports, parties, or organized social events. They did have a picnic every quarter.
Placement Services10My University has it's own career services department. They can help you with everything from writing your resume to interview skills. It's nice to have someone always looking out for you if you need a job.
Alumni Network2I have not received one thing about any alumni network in almost 4 years. Not a single thing.

Would Recommend?yesMurray State University provided me with excellent opportunities academically, socially, and athletically. I enjoyed my experiences at the university and will be sending my children there.
Program Reputation8I believe the University has maintained an excellent academic reputation. I would say this is true throughout all academic departments.
Program Quality8I love my school, but it's been a while.
Instruction8When I last attended 31 years ago the instruction was fine.
How Difficult8
Hands-On vs. BookishI guess it had to be books back then. I'm not so sure that it may have not been a little better back then.
Schedule Flexibility8When I last attended 31 years ago flexibility was fine.
Academic Facilities8Everything was available back then. However, I am sure that things have changed a lot since then.
Social Life8The best. For a small school, everything was available. I had always lived in large cities and had some reservations about moving to a small town. I have to say, though, that everything was great socially.
Placement Services5I am not familiar with their work. I have not personally used their services.
Alumni Network8I have several friends that remain in contact with the alumni association. I, however, do not.

University Of Louisville • Louisville, KY
Studying Masters Of Arts / Department Of Education & Human Development (completion in 2001)

9/18/2011

"I wish I had better career training and counseling. I am not saying that I would be in another line of work but if I knew more about the field of dietetics and nutrition, I may have gone that route. All in all I am better for the experiences I had and even though I am not completely satisfied, I have to look inward and say that it was really up to me to have the experience I wanted and I chose not to control my destiny as tightly as I wished. I now know that my destiny is in my control and thus I enjoy focusing on what makes me happy and not on the past."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?noUnless things have changed since I graduated, I would not recommend the school's or program. The program was disorganized and there was a lot of turnover among the teachers. There was a lot of tension and gossip among the staff (mostly the teachers) and it seemed that the student was not always the focus of attention. For the cost of the classes, I would warn those to make sure this is what you want to invest your time and resources into.
Program Reputation8The college of education and human development is well know in the Louisville, KY area for producing quality therapists, counselors, teachers, and educators on the college level. I would say that it is a diverse grouping of students that have the opportunity to migrate to a variety of classes to get a good mix of exposure to theories and disciplines from various fields.
Program Quality2The school's program was very disorganized and not very well put together. The internships were not helpful and I felt I was just one of the mass herds of people instead of an individual.
Instruction2The instructors, while having knowledge, appeared to be at odds with other instructors and students, like myself, felt the tension. I feel strongly that there was stress that was not needed. When the professors were asked about this they said that it is done on purpose so that it weeds out those who should not be there.
How Difficult5My thesis was average in difficulty and was doable but not easy. I spent one year finishing my thesis and presenting it. The program content was ample but you need to look outside of the classroom to fill in the gaps that were not taught.
Hands-On vs. BookishClasses in general brought in guest speakers on a regular basis (every week or two) and also investigated work sites, internship possibilities, worked with foreign exchange students in the same field, and had opportunities to do much overseas travel to universities abroad. I would say the book and hands on portion was about 50/50.
Schedule Flexibility5The class schedule was intense. When taking a full class load, you also had to sacrifice large parts of your day to fit it all in. I believe if I had to do it all over again I would just take an extra semester and slow it down to absorb the content better. Some days I would have 6 to 8 hours of class almost back to back. To say it was stressful would be an understatement.
Academic Facilities8Classrooms had state of the art electronics and visual aids. The library was top notch and the online cataloger for resources was easy to maneuver. Classes on how to use the library were offered as standard components in many of the classes. On hand training for research related tasks was very good. The only down side is that because the school is not the smallest, at times resources might be in use at the time you need them (example: books at library on reserve).
Social Life2The Louisville Cardinal school spirit was present, but I neither sought it out nor had much interest in sports. I was so busy with school work because I took a full time class load and I could not devote time to extra school activities. I went to school full time, worked two part time jobs, worked on a thesis, and then had a part time internship. It was maddening.
Placement Services4I am a go-getter so getting my first job was of little difficulty, but for others it seemed the college was rather hands off in aiding students with getting a job. I can imagine that the professors would help, but most has to do with how you interview and what your background of study is.
Alumni Network7I see that as a graduate, the alumni network seems to keep up with me and invites me to cook outs and fundraisers on a monthly basis. I feel that the alumni association is very well funded and organized and I hope it stays that way.

NKU • Highland Heights, KY
Studying Industry Labor Relations (completion in 1999)

1/25/2012

"It was an Ok experience. I will encourage my children to expand their horizons more than I did."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI don't think my career has anything to do with my school other than location. For the money, NKU was a solid choice but certainly not a life defining one.
Program ReputationNKU is growing in stature since my time there. I don't know about my exact major's reputation.
Program Quality5I went this route because I had an interest in mediation, but at the post school, career options were limited.
Instruction4It was an OK program, teachers were average. There were many night classes, lots of semi professional students.
How Difficult4I thought the classes were easy until the final year. The only challenge I had was a micro economics course.
Hands-On vs. BookishThis varied by teacher and course. I felt the legal aspects of my major were very book intensive. The HR course seemed more case study/role playing.
Schedule Flexibility1NKU was a commuter school, so many options for class times. I worked almost full-time my senior year while attending a full course load.
Academic Facilities5These were OK. I used the library often but had no interest in study or support groups.
Social Life7I was in a fraternity , so that helped with the social experience. I might have had a little too much fun.
Placement ServicesThey did not help me at all, but I did not really try to use them. I developed my own career path independently.
Alumni Network2NKU offered no help in getting me a job. I earned everything on my own.

Lindsey Wilson College • Columbia, KY
Studying Business Management (completion in 2008)

2/5/2012

"Lindsey offers a diverse range of programs and degrees which attracts many students. Lindsey offers great athletic and academic program which appeal to a wide range of students."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesI highly recommend Lindsey Wilson college because of the programs they offer and the small town, Christian atmosphere.
Program Reputation7Lindsey is a smaller school so the national reputation certainly isn't where it could be if it were larger. At the same time, the program has a good reputation for being a place to grow as a student.
Program Quality8Lindsey offers a good education and offers a great environment for learning. The educational experience at Lindsey Wilson provides a small town Christian atmosphere and that is what I enjoyed most.
Instruction8Lindsey provides teachers who work to challenge you as a student and enhance education and learning. The education I received at Lindsey better prepared me for my career in sales.
How Difficult7The level of difficulty was average for my classes. I found the classes to be challenging and brought an experience that was well worth my time involved.
Hands-On vs. BookishLindsey offers a range of different classes that offer hands on learning compared to book learning. In my Business Management program I primarily learned more directly from books.
Schedule Flexibility9Lindsey offers a variety of day and night classes in my chosen major and field so it worked well with my schedule. Lindsey's schedule flexibility gave me a reason to go back to school and finish my degree while employed full time.
Academic Facilities8Lindsey offers great resources which benefit students. Lindsey offers a friendly group of teachers and advisors who provide great support.
Social Life7There are a limited number of social events available, primarily due to location. Lindsey offers a great variety of sporting and academic programs to benefit students.
Placement Services9Lindsey has resources to assist students in job searching and placements. Lindsey has an annual job fair which also results in great success for students.
Alumni Network7I think that the support for alumni is good, as I saw many prior students involved with the school in a variety of events. Being a graduate of Lindsey makes it worth my time to stay in touch with what is going on today.

University Of Louisville School Of Law • Louisville, KY
Studying Law (completion in 2008)

3/18/2012

"It was like any other law school. I would have been just as happy anywhere else."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?maybeI would make sure the person really wanted to practice law. Or if they just wanted an advanced degree, I would tell them to get an MBA, which is less expensive and easier.
Program Reputation5Everyone wants to get into the program because they think they want to be a lawyer. However, once they get out, they aren't so happy about it.
Program Quality6I learned a lot about the law. However, an MBA would have been a better choice.
Instruction5We learned everything from the books. The profs. were just there to collect a pay check.
How Difficult9I was in a program with 130 very smart people. I had to be on the top of my game.
Hands-On vs. BookishAll we did was book work. There was no hands on work.
Schedule Flexibility5I took classes during the day and night. There are no weekend classes.
Academic Facilities5We had old classrooms and we had a 100 year old library. They have since done some renovations.
Social Life1We did our work and went home. It was professional school - no time to socialize.
Placement Services1They do not place us anywhere. It is up to us to find jobs on our own.
Alumni Network1I have no ability to get jobs through alumni connections. It is just there as a front.

Transylvania University • Lexington, KY
Studying History (completion in 2011)

4/8/2012

"While it wasn't perfect in all respects, my school was very solid academically and the social experience was irreplaceable. I truly enjoyed my time in college."

Ratings are on a 1-10 scale

CharacteristicRatingComment
Would Recommend?yesWhile I chose a different major than what I am currently doing, the business dept. at my school was very large and had quite a bit of funding. The professors were always willing to help and from what I've experienced (I started as a hospitality major) they were also very knowledgeable. Plus as a Liberal Arts school we had a business program, something many do not.
Program Reputation9The history program is solid and there's always people within the program itself. The teachers also are all fair for the most part and have the reputation of teaching you a lot.
Program Quality8While I did not major in business and instead chose history, I feel like it still gave me a good basis to simply be a well rounded person, especially in a business setting. The professors for my program were all excellent as well.
Instruction9All of the professors were extremely knowledgeable. Plus we had a wide range of time periods and specialties covered so there wasn't a gap in knowledge.
How Difficult9Large workload consisting of reading and paper writing. Research was also heavily stressed, especially for our senior thesis.
Hands-On vs. BookishWe referred to texts quite often but also the vast majority of classes were discussion based. The professors really cared to get student feedback.
Schedule Flexibility5We were a small school so naturally class flexibility wasn't too high. There were some summer options available and occasionally a night class offered, but nothing extravagant.
Academic Facilities8Professors were definitely available to help and there were a myriad of academic resources at our disposal. The biggest issue was not enough research texts at our library, but we had a large public school near us with a library that we could use.
Social Life10I was in a fraternity while in college. Great experience and really added to my overall college life.
Placement ServicesI never used my school's Career Services. I have worked at my current position for the last 5 years.
Alumni Network7I'm not too familiar with the alumni network since I just graduated recently myself. They do try to stay in touch with us however and there are events specifically geared towards alumni that I can remember being hosted on campus.
