| Would Recommend? | maybe | LSU is a good state school. If you don't already live in Louisiana, though, I don't know if I would recommend it. Many scholarships are available to residents, which would make it quite worthwhile. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | LSU is not nationally known for their psychology program. Law, medical, and engineering are the fields they're more known for. |
| Program Quality | 5 | LSU is not nationally known for their psychology program. Law, medical, and engineering are the fields they're more known for. |
| Instruction | More than 5 years ago | |
| How Difficult | 5 | LSU is a state school. They're not known for having strenuous standards. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | In upper level classes there were quite a few hands on experiences available. In lower level classes, book learning was more the norm. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 5 | There were a wide range of morning and evening classes. However, many core classes were only offered at certain times, sometimes in conflict with other core classes. |
| Academic Facilities | 5 | The LSU library network had a wide range of materials. Professors were often available as well. |
| Social Life | 10 | LSU has many nationally ranked athletic teams. These contribute to the overall feeling of school spirit. |
| Placement Services | 5 | I never used their placement services. They were available to me, but I chose not to use them. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | There's a lot of pride surrounding LSU alumni. There are also alumni chapters in most major cities. |

"Once I graduated, I realized to a great extent that a degree from any school is as good as another. I had a great time while at college, and got my degree."

| Would Recommend? | maybe | My major and career don't reflect one another. I'm not sure if I'd recommend my career to anyone. |
| Program Reputation | 5 | LSU is known for agriculture and mechanics. It is not known for its psychology programs. |
| Program Quality | 6 | LSU is not known for it's stellar psychology program, yet I still feel like I learned a lot. If I ever go to grad school, I doubt it will be at LSU. |
| Instruction | 7 | LSU is quite good at preparing students for life. They employ many good teachers. |
| How Difficult | 5 | LSU is in a state with a relatively low literacy rate. The fact that anyone goes to college should be a point to be proud of. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | I took both textbook oriented classes and lab classes. I think it depends on what your major is as to how much hands on experience you get. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 6 | There were a wide variety of times to take classes. I took several night classes. |
| Academic Facilities | 7 | LSU has an enormous library. It also has many tutoring programs available. |
| Social Life | 10 | LSU is known as a sports school and party school. The level of social involvement is very, very high. |
| Placement Services | 5 | My rating is just a guess. I never used the career placement programs, but I know they existed while I was there. |
| Alumni Network | 8 | There are LSU alumni associations all over the world. Pride in LSU runs very strongly. |
Tulane University • New Orleans, LA
Studying Business Administration (completion in 2006)

"The school had some very strong professors and a solid well-rounded curriculum. However, with the cost and resources it was probably not the best investment for one without big connections."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | Dollar-for-dollar there are far better business schools in the deep South. Tulane is solid but it is no where near schools like UT-Austin or even Florida. |
| Program Reputation | 4 | In some circles Tulane is highly regarded, but it is still known as a safety school. I feel that sometimes people who acknowledge the curriculum being solid will still view the school as a place you went just because it is where you were accepted. |
| Program Quality | 8 | The well rounded curriculum has helped me face a variety of tasks in the workplace: negotiations, software, projections, management, and organization. I do feel that more specialization on modern IT systems would have helped to make the program even better. |
| Instruction | 3 | The curriculum was very relevant other than the lack of modern IT education. The drawback was the number of teaching assistants and difficulty in getting close with the professors who were actually held in high regard. |
| How Difficult | 7 | The classes were competitive and people really did strive to do well in order to gain access to solid internships. However, I feel there was a slacker contingent who were content to get by on family connections. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | The hands on nature was very important, as they always asked you to apply the skills. However, New Orleans does not have many progressive businesses so using those hands-on skills in the real world only happened if you summered in New York. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 9 | It was always easy to get the classes I needed to graduate on time. The business school was very compact and the advisers were willing to work with you to get you into a class that may come up as full. |
| Academic Facilities | 6 | The school's renovation in the early 2000s really helped with the virtual stock trading rooms and expansion of the library. The only thing that took away from this was access to after-hours education. |
| Social Life | 10 | Tulane is very social and the small size really helped. Everyone knew each other and no business school classes were held on Friday. |
| Placement Services | 3 | The school's job fairs were very narrow in their scope and tended to only focus on finance and accounting. Anything outside of those two fields was relegated to the corner of the job fair and career services center. |
| Alumni Network | 2 | Tulane's alumni are very decentralized and tend to go to better schools for their MBA. This really hurts the networking and does not instill a sense of pride. The safety school label extends well into the world of being a graduate. |
Career Technical College • Monroe, LA
Studying Information Technology (completion in 2008)

• 2/4/2012
"The school was lackluster in almost every way, and the people who attended weren't the brightest. Some of the classes reminded me of being in elementary school again, with fill in the blank questions using a word bank."
Ratings are on a 1-10 scale
| Characteristic | Rating | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Would Recommend? | no | The school was horrible. Not really much else I can say there. |
| Program Reputation | 3 | I doubt the technical college has any reputation in the IT field whatsoever. It's a small school with a small budget. |
| Program Quality | 3 | The school I went to was a waste of money. They didn't even have a class for networking when I was getting an IT degree. |
| Instruction | 5 | I use computers a lot in my job, and there is a lot I learned in college that I put to use every day. A lot of it has to do with my experience with spreadsheets and databases, which is highly useful as a sales manager. |
| How Difficult | 8 | It was a pretty tough program considering how much I had to memorize about computers, and that I had to learn how to build a computer from the ground up. Compared to the other degrees at the school it looked like the most difficult one. |
| Hands-On vs. Bookish | Having an IT degree meant I had a lot of hands-on work to do. But I also had a lot of memorization, like port numbers, model numbers and sizes. It was more hands on due to the field. | |
| Schedule Flexibility | 6 | I chose that school because of scheduling. The regular university in that city didn't have a very good evening class schedule, the one I chose had a lot more available to me. |
| Academic Facilities | 3 | The teachers were underpaid so they weren't ever really available between classes. There was no library, classes were in small rooms, and the computer lab was a total of five computers. |
| Social Life | 4 | I was the first Editor in Chief of the school newsletter, but I didn't socialize much with the people there because there were five people at most in my field, and when I wasn't in school I was working, so I was always busy. I socialized more with my coworkers. |
| Placement Services | They had some services after graduation. I didn't utilize those services because I didn't need to. | |
| Alumni Network | 2 | My school gave some support locally for getting a job after graduation, but I haven't heard from them since. Not that I really care, but it was years ago. |
